08 Jan 05 - 01:41 PM (#1374548) Subject: RE: NOMAD--RIP? From: Barbara Shaw Big Mick, I would also like to finally meet and hear you. You and I have both been around this mudcat for a LONG time, and you're one of the few whose posts are worth reading. This NOMAD festival is a nice one and we've been going for a few years, performing with ShoreGrass. This past year we did a fun workshop called "Gospel in Black and Blue" with Jerry Rasmussen and his Gospel Messengers and dwditty (Rich Gallagher). Here's a link to pictures I took on the Saturday: NOMAD 2004 I'm hoping Frank and I can find some time to volunteer this year, in addition to donating the performances (as do all the performers). If you're planning to go next year, it's easy enough to volunteer some time at the merchandise table or registration or instrument check room or whatever. The offer of even a few hours of help would be welcome, and I believe you get free admission in return. |

13 Jan 05 - 02:47 PM (#1378322) Subject: RE: NOMAD--RIP? From: dick greenhaus I'm refreshing this, because I think it's important. Festivals exist, in great part, because of volunteers. No volunteers, no festivals. And NOMAD is only one of many that's crying for help. If you're anywhere near New Haven, Connecticut, you can really help support folk music in the area. Please respond. |

13 Jan 05 - 03:16 PM (#1378355) Subject: RE: NOMAD--RIP? From: KathWestra Can someone involved in the "call for help" from NOMAD indicate which volunteer positions might be handled by people who live at a distance from New Haven, Connecticut. Based as I am in Rockland, Maine, I cannot attend planning meetings or be physically present for decisionmaking gatherings throughout the year. However, if some of the programming work could be done by e-mail, or if there are other jobs where a commitment "for one full season" could be accomplished without my physical presence, then I'd be happy to help a festival I've been part of for almost its entire life. (Regarding the commitment sought, I don't think we're talking about a few volunteer hours during the festival here, folks. My impression from talking with prior organizers is that they already have plenty of "day of" help--it's the long-haul truckers they're looking for.) This is really a wonderful festival, and it would be a great shame to see it fold. |

I have always wanted to meet you as well. I suspect some good tunes/songs would jump out, eh? There are things we can do, folks. Mick |

13 Jan 05 - 07:25 PM (#1378603) Subject: RE: NOMAD--RIP? From: AllisonA(Animaterra) Kathy, when I sent an email to the address listed above, I got a very nice reply saying that there was much I could do from afar, from distributing flyers and talking it up, to signing up to work the registration table for a few hours at the festival. There's a lot that local folks are needed for, but there are things for us "away" folks as well. It was so wonderful to meet you there, m'dear. Here's to many more! Allison |

From: Leadfingers Best of luck with the appeal - Its a shame I am too far away to be of ANY assistance but the travel costs for a weekend preclude my involvement ! Its a shame if any halfway reasonable festival has to die through lack of support ! |
