BS: the joy of our lives...

Happy new Year to all, and what a way to start 2005..just
wanted to share that we had a baby girl..

Anna Zdena Ruth was born at 3:36 AM Jan 4th. Mom and baby are doing well,
my wife had a relatively merciful labor, after arriving at the Womens hospital at 1am. She was real a trooper, receiving admiration by the nurses and chose to go it without anesthetic.
At birth Anna weighed 7lbs & 11.6 ounces, 21 cm long..
(named after my Grandma, the kindest person I knew, and our moms)

It is truly a joy I could not have imagined...

Petr, what joyful news! Thanks so much for sharing it. A wee lass, eh? Prepare yourself, a trial lies ahead. But if you survive it, you will have joy on earth. I have three daughters, and they spoil me without end, including giving me grandchildren. Yep, you heard right. A strapping young lad like meself has grandkids. HA.

Please give your wife our congrats. And get her some flowers, ye layabout!!

Anna ...... what a beautiful name for your beautiful new girl.

All the best,

Mick

Congrats-Anna has arrived just before the Chinese New Year changes so she is a wee Monkey. She will be intelligent, inventive, clever, entertaining. Because of their extraordinary nature and magnetic perosnality they are always well liked and make close friends.

Hope you've had enough forethought to get a sturdy, fitting rocking chair. Excellent promoter of peaceful moments and necessary sleep. Also a useful bonding tool -- and, if you haven't been singing to her already (even in utero) START SINGING IMMEDIATELY. You do understand that lullabies are worksongs, don't you?       Tw

Hi, Anna. Welcome home.

Congrats, Petr, to you and your wife and lovely Anna, as you embark on this new journey of being a family. What joy!! Thanks for telling us!!

One wee bit of unsolicited advice.....If you haven't already done so, get yourself a journal and write everything down! You think you will remember it all...all of the milestones, the cute things she does and says...but you won't! Take the time to write them down when you can! There will be many gems from this little one.

And yes, it is miraculous!

Again, heartiest congratulations!!
KT

Petr,

I return to this thread to see what people say, because the experience you have had--that of becoming a new father--is maybe the most profoundly moving and 'shocking' realizations people ever have, IMO.

I cut the cord for my eldest, and (mostly) delivered my youngest (--yes, my wife did all the work). I think part of it all is seeing that you have a new life to help, feed, care for, educate, guide, etc., and the other part is that you'll likely be making some changes in your own life to accommodate the little one.

One little tip: if Ruth is not in diapers, don't hold her above your head and get her giggling and excited. I did that once and kids have real difficulty holding their bladders. I recall the day my youngest came out of the washroom, the floor of which was covered with liquid. She announced in a clear and confident voice: "I can pee standing up."

Keep a photo album and absolutely everything that Ruth creates. If she gets a favourite toy, buy a second one and put it aside. There will be tears like you have never seen when her bear or doll goes missing. You'd better be prepared to jump in quickly with Winnie the Second.

I am really happy for you and your missus.

Bruce
