09 Jan 05 - 02:02 PM (#1375170) Subject: RE: BS: A non-moral Question From: Stilly River Sage How old is the machine? These things can keep going for ages, but if it is ancient, and you think you might like some of the newer features (when I bought the house a couple of years ago I loved getting a new machine with a "handwash" setting and that gives me more water temperature and extra rinse and spin options) then you may want to weigh the cost of the service call vs the price of a new machine. In my experience, there is no free estimate in small motor and home appliance repair. Washers and dryers aren't that hard or expensive to repair (unless you call the service folks). I have friends who have done it. They know a little about electricity and small motors, which helped. I wouldn't know how, so would have to do some research before making the attempt. Since I'm good at research, I could figure out how to fix my washer. Evaluate where you fit in this sliding scale just described, and go from there. SRS |
