Yup, the DC Government, already straped for cash, has been ordered by the US Government (Bush) to pay for the $12M that it cost to hold an innaguartion in DC. Not only that but if unlike previous innagurations the Homeland Security folks have made no bones about not letting anyone near the parade route who might show their displeasure, by holding up signs, with the Bushite thugs... Like I've said all along. This batch is a gang of thievin', liein' crooks... Bobert |

12 Jan 05 - 08:51 AM (#1377327) Subject: RE: BS: The Bushites Fleece the Nation's Capital From: GUEST,Rapaire Dang it! That was me and my "morning fingers". Bobert, DC was created from Virginia and Maryland (as you know) to be a "Federal City," which it was originally called. It was not created from any existing state so that no existing state would have a bigger voice in national affairs than another. The early history of DC (as a city) is one of corruption -- Benjamin Bannaeker was perhaps the only honest man of the whole bunch (and someone I highly respect). The natives of DC know this; whether or not they like it is another matter. I can't see it changing, simply because having the nation's capitol in a (theoretically) independent city is a truly Good Idea. But neither do I think that the DC city government should be made to foot the bill alone for some of the things that go on there, and usually it doesn't. Frankly, I think that DC city government should pay for those things which any city of comparable size would have to pay for (schools, streets, cops, etc.) and the rest -- and anything stemming from the city being the Capitol -- should be paid by the Feds. There should be a limit, too, on the amount the taxpayers spend on an inaguration -- enough for a modest ceremony and a state dinner, perhaps. The rest should come from true contributions -- contributions which are NOT deductible. |

So the same folks who could only give $2,000 to his campain are now giving 100,000 and more for the "victory party". Talk about the political "capital" that shub has at his disposal. NPR reported today that the security precautions will cost the taxpayers in the tens of millions of dollars. Granted, the GOP (Dear Grand Old Pilferers) are footing the bill for the balls---and they sure do have them by the score---balls that is. Corporations and rich donors that like gov't contacts are the donors---well, they saved it in the Bush tax cuts---balls again. A free ball for the military members---who's balls are being shot off. Sorry=there are women in the troops--but I could not think of a good there. In a more serious vein then. the lies that embroiled us in this conflict, given the reversals we are suffering, given the natural disasters around our planet, and given the scandals that surround this administration would not a more humble and less arrogant persona and innauguration for a fumbling barely elected public speaker have spoken more eloquently for this nation than the imitation of a coronation of Louis XIV. Oh---let them eat cake---if they can afford it after this administration's blunders. One last thought---CBS fires people for not doing their job properly. Her new book presents the facts of the innocence of the person that Scalia (among others) denied a new trial. The only saving grace is that so far the vision of the founding fathers has not been totally obliterated. I enjoyed the last quote---that the good nun finished for the interviewer---"...the last administration that had an intelligent dinner conversation was when Thomas Jefferson dined alone". Here's the latest from them: Last week I learned that Kid Rock will perform at the Youth Concert at the Presidential Inauguration. Kid Rock represents everything that Values Voters voted against in the last election. For information on Kid Rock, click here. We asked a few of our supporters to call the Presidential Inauguration Committee (PIC) and ask that Kid Rock be uninvited. We were hoping that this situation would be resolved without becoming a major issue. Those who called were told that what AFA had said about Kid Rock performing was only an Internet rumor, that AFA did not know what we were talking about and that AFA was not telling the truth. Elisabeth Bumiller, writing in the January 3 edition of the New York Times, confirmed that Kid Rock would perform. She wrote: "The Bush twins, Jenna and Barbara, will be hosts of the youth concert, where the teenage singer JoJo will appear along with Kid Rock." An article in WorldNetDaily also confirmed Kid Rock's appearance. I called PIC once on Thursday and three times on Friday and asked to speak with Mr. Greg Jenkins, Executive Director of PIC. Each time I was told that he was busy. I left messages for Mr. Jenkins to please return my calls. He did not. I contacted a U.S. Senator's high-level staff person who did speak with Mr. Jenkins and asked him to please call me concerning the situation. Still, no call. I urge you to send an email asking PIC to uninvite Kid Rock, and then forward this email to a least one friend. After you send the email, please call and ask that Kid Rock be uninvited. Emphasis supplied. And why should Bush cater to any particular group anymore? He's a lame duck president in a lame duck administration. |
