Not wanting to invade his privacy too much but Tim Hart was always my favorite Steeleye Span member and I would like to know that he is fine and enjoying himself where ever he is. Any MudCatters know?

If TH happens to read this 'All the best and thanks for all the music'

I did hear he had retired to the Canary Islands and was either writing or illustrating (or maybe both) but I am damned if I can remember the source for that. Certainly I was looking for Canary Island stuff not Tim Hart stuff if you see what I mean.

Best regards,

Maddy Prior said he had retired to the Canary Islands at a 'Steeleye Span' reunion concert that I was at. Tim had been asked if he wanted to take part, but he declined. I don't know about the writing or illustrating.

We met his son Kim who is running a bar in Valle Gran Rey in La Gomera, in the Canaries. He built imself a house as part of a recuperative response to a serious illness, and is now well and happy. He has written a humorous little guide boook to the island.

That is great news. And for those who have never been to the Canary Island of La Gomera it is paradise.

(Except there is no real ale and it can get a bit windy).

Best regards,

Dave

There was a Steeleye Span reunion concert at the Forum in London a few years ago. He was there, and in great form. Very good gig all round.

Always used to play his tapes of nursery rhymes to my kids in the car!

Folkiedave says
"Except there is no real ale and it can get a bit windy"

Is that two unconnected statements or just cause and effect?

I got this note by some B. (Blackleg?) Miner two weeks ago in the guestbook of my folk music website:

Hi folks, there are wonderful news about Tim Hart. He has been living on the canarian island La Gomera since 1988 “writing, fishing, building himself a house, and enjoying an uneventful live” (in his own words), but now he has published a book titled “la gomera - a guide...”. On the book´s page 101 you even can see on a picture of Lomo de Balo (as a part of the valley Valle Gran Rey) Tim´s house, where he lives with his German wife Conny. You´ll find that pittoresque house in front of a stepped path exactly in the centre of the photograph.
