14 Jan 05 - 03:00 PM (#1379148) Subject: ADD: Unsung Hero (Eric Bogle) From: GUEST,Jacqued Can help you with "The Unsung Hero" Unsung Hero (Eric Bogle) The world did not pause in wonder on the day that you were born, And when your life is over the world will not pause ot mourn. And except for those who love you, unsung you'll live and die, But you're honest and you're decent so you canhold your head up high. Your life has been a common story, destined never to be told, Not for you the shining glory of Nobel Prize or olympic gold. You'll never mount the winners' rostrum to hear the masses chant your name, Though you're honest and you're decent, that's not enough top bring you fame. Chorus But you've always been a hero to me becaue of what you are, not what you do, What a kinder, better world this would be if only there were more like you. But only winners are true heroes to this facile, fickle age, The rest are faceless zeros to be shuffled off the stage. While the winners hog the spotlight, the masses worship and applaud, Though you're honest and you're decent, ah you'll never be a god. Chorus The world did not pause in wonder on the day that you were born, And when your life is over the world will not pause ot mourn. And except for those who love you, unsung you'll live and die, But you're honest and you're decent so you canhold your head up high. Yes you're honest and you're decent and you can hold your head up high. |

14 Jan 05 - 05:13 PM (#1379246) Subject: RE: Req: by Eric Bogle: Unsung Hero/Heart of the Land From: GUEST,Joe Offer I find he's often difficult to understand. Very few of his CD's contain lyrics sheets, so sometimes his songs lose me. It would be nice it he'd post his lyrics on his Website. -Joe Offer- |
16 Jan 05 - 04:40 PM (#1380059) Subject: RE: Req: by Eric Bogle: Unsung Hero/Heart of the Land From: Wolfgang You're too young. All his (6?) LPs I know have lyrics sheets and long commentaries to the songs. Wolfgang |
16 Jan 05 - 05:11 PM (#1380081) Subject: RE: Req: by Eric Bogle: Unsung Hero/Heart of the Land From: Big Mick I have The Eric Bogle Songbook which contains the album "Something of Value" in addition to a number of other songs. It is actually two volumes in one. "Heart of the Land" is not in it. But there are extensive notes on each song. Joe, if you have questions on any, I will post the notes. Mick |
16 Jan 05 - 05:37 PM (#1380094) Subject: RE: Req: by Eric Bogle: Unsung Hero/Heart of the Land From: Bill Hahn//\\ Eric Bogle's latest album---The Colour of Dreams---comes with lyrics in the liner notes. Most of the others have extensive explanations of the songs. I have to add that I have no problem understanding his pronunciation. To me--one of the great writers and performers. He can do it all from humor to pathos. Bill Hahn |
20 Jan 05 - 10:19 PM (#1383858) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Unsung Hero & Heart of the Land (E Bogle) From: Jim Dixon HEART OF THE LAND appears on Eric Bogle's album "Small Miracles," Greentrax CD #130, 1998. I found a couple of sound samples, from which I transcribed this: He'll be up and workin' before the sunrise. Here on the farm you don't work nine to five. [CHORUS?] He's the heart of the land, this tired dusty man, Though he'd laugh if you said so, claim to be nothin' grand, Just a battler survivin' as best as he can, But this land's in his heart and he's the heart of this land. And he thinks of the deed (?) and the work that's been done... |
20 Jan 05 - 11:47 PM (#1383920) Subject: Lyr Add: HEART OF THE LAND (from Anne Kirkpatrick) From: GUEST,Dale The Heart Of The Land Eric Bogle, transcribed from the singing of Anne Kirkpatrick Well, the long day has ended with toil and its sweat On the veranda we sit and we watch the sun set Best time of the day for my man and me With me drinkin' cold beer and him drinkin' tea We talk of the day and the work that's been done And of tomorrow, the toil still to come We'll be up and workin' before the sunrise. Here on the farm you don't work nine to five. CHORUS He's the heart of the land, this tired dusty man, Though he'd laugh if you said so, claim to be nothin' grand, Just a battler survivin' as best as he can, This land's in his heart and he's the heart of this land. And we've seen some hard times that we got by somehow And we've been through too much to give it up now Though he's not one for wearin' his heart on his sleeve My man would rather die than pack up and leave CHORUS For this is his country by blood and by birth To him there's no finer place on this earth So many more sunsets from the veranda we'll see With me drinkin' cold beer and him drinkin' tea CHORUS, then repeat last line No doubt there are minor differences due to the gender of the narrator. She doesn't sing the chorus EXACTLY the same everytime, leaving out or putting in a but or and here or there, that sort of thing. She does a fine version of this, as with virtually everything I have heard by her. |
28 Jan 05 - 01:53 AM (#1390966) Subject: Lyr Add: THE HEART OF THE LAND (Eric Bogle) From: GUEST,LadyLuck Hi, thanks a lot for all the comments. @ Wolfgang: there are a couple more than just 6 LPs/CDs. Bogle's first audio recordings come from the late sixties, and he never seems to get tired -I really hope so ;) Here are the words of the song 'The Heart of the Land' (recapitulated by the comments above and, of course, the singing of Eric): ************************************* THE HEART OF THE LAND [Eric Bogle] Well, the long day has ended with its toil and its sweat. He sits on the verandah in the fading sunset And has a cold beer as the light dies away, For a hard working man the best time of the day. He's the heart of the land, this tired dusty man, Though he'd laugh if you said so, claim to be nothin' grand, Just a battler survivin' as best as he can, But this land's in his heart and he's the heart of this land. And he thinks of the day and the work that's been done, And of tomorrow, the toils still to come. He'll be up and working before the sunrise. Here on the farm you don't work nine to five. He's the heart of the land, this tired dusty man, Though he'd laugh if you said so, claim to be nothin' grand, Just a battler survivin' as best as he can, But this land's in his heart and he's the heart of this land. Now he's seen some hard times but he got by somehow, And he's been through too much to give it up now, Though he's not one for wearin' his heart on his sleeve He know he'd rather died, than pack up and leave. He's the heart of the land, this tired dusty man, Though he'd laugh if you said so, claim to be nothin' grand, Just a battler survivin' as best as he can, But this land's in his heart and he's the heart of this land. For this is his country by blood and by birth. To him there's no finer place on this earth, And though pastures of plenty he might never see, He knows where he is and where he wants to be. He's the heart of the land, this tired dusty man, Though he'd laugh if you said so, claim to be nothin' grand, Just a battler survivin' as best as he can, But this land's in his heart and he's the heart of this land. Yes he's the heart of the land, this tired dusty man, Though he'd laugh if you said so, claim to be nothin' grand, Just a battler survivin' as best as he can, But this land's in his heart and he's the heart of this land. Yes this land's in his heart and he's the heart of this land. ************************************* Greetings LadyLuck |
