Lyr Req: an Irish protest song

Once years ago, an Irish man came to Australia (Iknow, I know) as a representative of the Irish resistance. He raised a lot of money among our unions (he was for real) and sang many songs. One of the chorus's stuck in my memory:

"We will march and we'll demonstrate,
We'll protest and sit in,
We're fighting for our civil rights.
The troubles just begun.
We've had promises too many
and delivered goods too few.
And promises don't butter bread,
whatever else they do"

I taught my children this chorus and paid them 20 cents a time to sing it at social events. They thought it was the funniest thing. However, what is this song and how does the rest of it go? Does anyone know?

I'm sure I've heard the lyrics before, though not necessarily in an Irish protest context. It might be one of the countless adaptations of older protest songs. It isn't in my database, nor in the DT or forum. Have you tried a google search?
