They were hampered by serious sound problems, but came through it. Fantastic music. Last night's Arches concert was recorded by BBC4 for broadcast towards the end of February. Le Vent Du Nord were also on the Travelling Folk programme recorded this afternoon to be broadcast on Thursday. And, John, if you noticed someone standing at the back door during the Open Stage last night (at least I think it was last night, I need a rest already), singing along to Bonnie Dundee and Yellow on the Broom, that was me. Good set, and good luck. Mercedes Peon was amazing. I saw her last week on a double bill with John McCusker. Great sets from both of them. |

Much like a session: a few of Manigance, La Botine Souriante etc. joined them. Personally I preferred Manigance, but thiis doesn`t mean that Le Vent du Nord were not great... |

Tarneybackle thoroughly enjoyed playing the open stage, although we too were affected by sound problems. This is the difficulty in performing after a 5 minute sound check. They were superb, took the place apart and had everyone up dancing including all the other musicians. Think La Bottine Souriante. Not so many in the band but just as energetic and uplifting. |

The big guy on the right playing among other things the jew's harp, looked as though he was enjoying it even more than me, energetic stuff. On the other hand the much vaunted Blowzabella came over as loud, mannered, and eccentric. The lead singer is a disciple of Elmer P Bleaty, they are obviously a festival only band. What club can afford to book a 10 piece band, that you can't dance to because they don't keep a steady tempo, and you can't sing along with because they alter the tunes too? really enjoyed the following programme about the Hardanger fiddle, although it could have done witha bit better editing.
