19 Jan 05 - 06:29 PM (#1382656) Subject: Tsunami Appeal concert - Glossop From: HuwG An all-day gig to raise relief finds for the victims of the recent tsunami in Asia, will take place at the "Globe" in Glossop on Friday 30th January. Several local bands and acoustic artists will play. Tickets are £5.00 each, and the owners of the Globe will be serving vegetarian hot-pot all day. Here is a Blue Clicky to a page which gives more information on the event, and the venue. Glossop is about 12 miles east of Manchester City Centre (in the UK), and perhaps 15 miles from Sheffield. (Your humble servant will be either serving behind the bar or ruining the acoustic acts.) |

01 Feb 05 - 05:42 AM (#1395404) Subject: RE: Tsunami Appeal concert - Glossop From: HuwG Final tally on the event : Over £5000 raised. The organisers are still counting late returns; 13 live bands and 18 acoustic artists played; Nobody could keep count of the numbers attending. Suffice it to say that there wasn't an inch of spare space, the pub was drunk entirely dry of Budvar pilsner, Strongbow cider, Lees Original (draught) lager, Moonshine bitter and probably several other lines. Quote from one of the bar staff at the end of the night: "Good Heavens ! I never knew the back of the fridge was that colour !" Yours truly worked an eleven-hour shift, starting with cleaning and helping set up at 10:00 am, and finally collapsing in gibbering hysteria over a till at 9:00 pm. (I was supposed to clock off at 5:00 but another of the bar staff failed to turn up.) At the end of it someone did try to propel me in front of the mike for the acoustic acts in the downstairs bar, to cover for a missing act (who was still queueing for the gents' toilet). I managed to escape by feigning insanity. |
