Hey all! Anyone have an English translation of the song Jimmy Mo Ghile a Stor? I've heard it as done by the Rankins with the chorus only in English: "These twelve months and better, my lover has left the shore. He ne'er will return 'til he's traveled the whole world oer, and when he returns, with laurels I'll crown him oer, he's the fondest of lovers (ooh at first I typed "livers"--nix that), sweet Jimmy Mo Ghile a Stor." Jog anyone's memory? Thanks for any help.

"Jimmy, mo Mhile Stor"   Jimmy my thousand treasures; variously credited to Paddy Maloney of The Chieftains and our old friend Trad.

Guest Sara, it's here in the Mudcat's Forum. However the title you have is slightly off.

Lyr Add: Jimmy Mo Mhíle a Stór

For another translation have a look at:

Funny, I had the Tears of Stone CD on which this tune appeared years ago but no longer have it--my guess is that I wasn't finding it before based on my botched Gaelic ("Mhile" not "Ghile")--thanks so much all for your help!
