Lyr Add: Hitch Hike Fever - Chords req'd

Subject: Lyr Add: HITCH HIKE FEVER (John Herald)
From: Kenny B (inactive)

Anyone know the chords to the words below?
There are some subtleties I can't seem to work out
Correction to lyrics welcome.

Hitch Hike Fever
by John Herald?

Now come and gather all round me,
And listen to my tale of woe,
I got some good advice to give you,
And a lot of things you ought to know,
Take a tip from one who's travelled,
and never started taggin round?
You're li'ble t'get the hitchhike fever boys,
And then you'll never settle down,

I got a'hitchin with a gal named Cellie
Who fin'ly said she'd take the plane,
I said "you're just gonna waste a lot of time and money,"
And I said "I'll beat you all the same,"
Well I met her at the hotel in Denver,
I guess I must have won the bet,
Cos by the time she arrived, I was shaved and shined,
Eatin' room service food in bed, …. Yodel

Now if you want a great vacation,
And you want to see the world out there,
You can get to know all about this country
and never pay a dollar fare,
But be careful with the hitchhike fever
Before you start to taggin round
You're liable t'get the wanderin' fever boys,
And then you'll never settle down,

Yeah now you've heard of hitchhike fever
And I hope you'll never go astray,
Right now I hear the traffic rollin at us ,
And soon I'll be on my way
But if you want to do me a real kind favour honey
Before you lay me down to die
Dig my grave beside the highway honey
So I can hear the cars go by … Yodel

You can hear a 40-second sound sample of John Herald singing HITCH HIKE FEVER at Shoeshine Records. That's one complete verse. That should be enough for some clever person (more clever than I) to work out the chords.

A review says the tune is very similar to RAILROAD BOOMER as sung by Goebel Reeves—but I'm not familiar with that tune either.

Verse 1 line 6 should be "And never start hitchhikin' round."

Verse 1 Line 6 is as originally shown from the CD Version but without the question mark.... a typo

Very similiar to Bommer's Story on Ry Cooder's album of the same name.

Sorry- That's BOOMER's STORY

Come and gather all around me,
Listen to my tale of woe.
Got some good advice to give you,
Lots of things you oughta know.
Take a tip from one who's traveled,
Never stopped a ramblin' 'round:
Once you get that roamin' fever
You'll never want to settle down boys
Never want to settle down.
Never settle down, no
You'll never want to settle down
Once you've got that roamin' fever
You'll never want to settle down.

I can't seem to put the chords in without a guitar in my hands and I'm at the library right now, but there are only C,G,F & Am in the key of C.
