BS: Dr. Doolittle trivia question

the 'Incongrous words" thread got me thinking about this...

in the Dr. Doolittle series - there is a turtle who survived the biblical flood and went on to become extremely aged and large...Dr. Doolittle helps cure his arthritis/gout by having flocks of birds build him an island in the center of his lake (carrying the rocks, pebbles and sand one at a time)

What the heck was the turtle's name?

now it's bugging me that I can't remember the name of the green canary.

dab-dab was the duck; gub,gub the pig. Jip was the dog. the pushme-pullyu didn't have a name that I know of, neither did the Great Luna Moth.

whitey was a mouse, lived in the cooperative in the back garden...

THANK YOU!

boy - it's been a long time since I read those books. I remember trying to even find them for my nephew 20 some odd years ago - and one librarian who told me they had removed them for being non-PC.

The turtle's name was Mudface. I did a Google search for "Hugh Lofting" and found http://members.tripod.com/~Puddlby/
