BS: PBS Censors Children's Program Now

So it appears that CEO Mitchell just can't censor enough innocuous programming these days...

Here is the Washington Post story of the program 'Postcards from Buster' where Buster and his dad visit a gay family. Apparently, PBS received a threatening letter from Bush's new Secretary of Education, expressing "strong and very serious concerns" and reminding CEO Mitchell that Secretary Spelling's department "that the show is being funded in part by the Education Department" and "many parents would not want their young children exposed to the life-styles portrayed in this episode." The episode is about the making of maple syrup by a family with two moms in Vermont.

According to the Post article, "PBS insists that although it made its decision not to distribute the episode on the very same day that the newly appointed Spellings decided to fire off her letter, the decision had nothing to do with the kerfuffle brewing at Education over the episode."

WGBH, who created and produces the series, is offering the episode to any station that wants it. At least SOMEBODY in public TV has the guts to stand up to the fascists in the Bush administration!

Can't those "many parents" turn off the TV or change the channel as I do when I am faced with believers who tell me I am going to hell because I am not one of them? Does PBS have to meet the approval of ALL of its viewers before it can air a program? Or only the far right?

What's wrong with showing kids how to make maple syrup?:~(

PBS is again demonstrating what cowards their managers are.

Really sad.

From Propaganda 101:

Get the cowards to censor and silence themselves.

I wrote to Rocky Mountain PBS about this, last night, and have already received the following reply. At least they haven't ruled it out completely and thank goodness for WGBH in Boston:

Hello Kat,
Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable input with us. PBS national has decided not to feed the local PBS stations
Postcards from Buster: "Sugartime!" (Vermont). The rationale they have given us is that there are elements of this episode that parents should have the option of addressing with their young children at a time and manner of their own choosing. While PBS is dedicated to addressing controversial issues in the primetime schedule, they have decided that there are unique sensitivities in the area of children's programming.

WGBH will be making the feed available to those PBS stations who choose to air the program at a later date, most likely in March. Our programming director has not yet seen the program but is expecting a copy in the mail Monday. Upon viewing the episode, she and our general manager will make a decision about when/if to air the program. I will send you an email reminder if we have the program scheduled. I forwarded your email on to both our programming and communication directors. We certainly appreciate all the feedback we are getting from our viewers, both positive and negative.
Thank you for your interest in Rocky Mountain PBS,
Trisha Bentz Kendall
Viewer Services Coordinator

Thank goodness we finally have a national department of education with some guts. Perhaps, we can get back to basics and let the children read about Buster if they are so inclined. The gay agenda is even worse than the atheist radicals. Since gays don't breed they must prostialtize, seduce and recruit the innocent.
