Lyr Req: You're Not Alone (Ian & Sylvia)

Subject: Tune Req: An obscure Ian & Sylvia song
From: GUEST,Sandra

Can anyone help? A song by Ian & Sylvia....my memory of it does not include the title and I've been searching everywhere. The first line of the song is "I wonder if I could write a simple love song...." and another line I recall is "...morning holds the mailbox full of payments past due..." If you could tell me where and how I could find a recording of this song, I would be very happy. Thanks for any help possible.

Hi, Sandra - Click here to get to the list of song titles for Vanguard's Complete Studio Recordings box set. I'm not familiar with the song you'll looking for, but maybe the song title list will ring a bell for you.
Good luck.

Lyrics copied from another forum called spacecast.com:

YOU'RE NOT ALONE
Ian Tyson

I wonder if I could write a simple love song.
Would you just try and read between those lines you've heard before?
What I'm really trying to say is, you're not alone anymore.

Old lady luck has run out on you.
Morning holds a mailbox full of payments past due,
So I'll leave a flower by your door.
What I'm really trying to say is, you're not alone anymore.

This tumbleweed town is lonesome, make you old before your time.
Let me take you in my arms, hold your body close to mine.
When you read those lines you've heard before,
You'll believe me when I tell you you're not alone anymore.

[Sylvia wasn't involved in this one. Recorded by Ian Tyson on "And Stood There Amazed," Vanguard CD 79471, 1993.]

"You're Not Alone Anymore" was originally recorded in about '72 or '73 by "Ian & Sylvia & The Great Speckled Bird" on their last album, "YOU WERE ON MY MIND," on Columbia. This is the only album that's never been on CD, although 3 songs appeared on Vanguard's "LONG LONG TIME" compilation--not including this one. The album was also reissued by Columbia in a two-fer entitled "Greatest Hits" along with the other Columbia record, "IAN & SYLVIA with DAVID WILCOX." It's not their best album, but it has some of their best songs, notably Ian's "Salmon In the Sea," and Sylvia's "Miriam."
