LYR REQ: An Gabhar Ban

Hello everyone -- I hope all you folks in the States had a great Thanksgiving! Does anyone have the lyrics for An Gabhar Bán - Clannad recorded it on Clannad 2 and it's also on Ring of Gold. Wolfgang -- do you have the LP or CD with the lyrics?? I would really appreciate it if you'd take the time to type them up and post them. The lyrics I've found on the Net aren't very good, as whoever transcribed them misspelled many words and didn't include all the grammatical markings in Irish. This makes it very hard to translate. Thanks in advance, Áine

Hi Anie

Have you tried Port Dillon's web? If not the web site is

www.portdillon.com/bazaar/irish.html

lots of great Irish music on that site.

Luck and blessings.

Thanks Rita, an Gabhar Ban IS at the Ceolas site which can be accessed through the Portdillon page, but there are some errors in the transcription and gaps in the translation. The same transcription appears on an unofficial Clannad website. I'm in contact with Aine and other interested parties* and when we're confident we've got a properly improved version one of us will post it on this thread - and also try to get in touch with the providers of the insufficient websites. There are a couple of instances when I'm not sure if a word or spelling is wrong in the transcription or if it's an acceptible variant reflecting local dialect. Even the transcription on the album cover has an error or two.

(*but don't let that stop any other interested party from contributing)

If you're interested in a related English language song, see 'The Peeler and the Goat' in the DT database. - same air and similar story

happy solstice! finally the days will get longer (for those of us in the northern hemisphere)
