Lyr Req: Pol Kinsella

Hope someone can help! Recently heard an Irish Republican tune about a young man named Pol Kinsella, who died while in British custody in Northern Ireland. I am looking for the lyrics, as some of the verses that I heard were a little tough for a Yank to pick up. I believe that the song was performed by a band called Shebeen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As mmsarge said, "Pol Kinsella" was recorded by a band named Shebeen - except that now the call themselves Robbie Byrne & Jon Byrne. The album is called Disband the RUC. BBC (click) also has some information about the group.
I didn't find lyrics, but at least this takes the thread to the top of the Forum Menu.

Thanks, Joe and Brucie! Anybody know of a connection between Kinsella and Pat McLauglin? Or was this just another bit of hump bustin' by the Brits? Also, the reference to the "Logues"? Just trying to have it all make some sense. Thanks again!

The connection between Pat Mc laughlin and Pól Kinsella is that Pat Mc laughlin being a republican prisoner was refused parole to attend his mothers funerel which took place the day before my Fathers (Pól Kinsella)funeral. Pat Mclaughlin also came from Derry.

Thanks very much, Michaela. My sincerest sympathies on the loss of your father. His memory will live on with those who believe in what he was fighting for and I will see to it here in the USA.

Hello MMsarge,

I'm Pól's brother and Michaela's uncle. I'm really pleased with your interest and help. On YouTube the video channel, my partner and I have a channel largely devoted to the memory of Derry Brigade IRA's fallen volunteers. I've posted many illustrated songs, including Pól's. It was written by Timmy Docherty who played with Shebeen for many years. The band are close friends of ours. It would be great if you could visit our channel and see the many vids & songs. At the time of our Pól's death the Logue family had a son Barney who died in a tragic accident and they were given a terrible time by the RUC. The RUC came looking for Barney at the family home etc. knowing full well that he was dead. All this because the family are good Republicans, some having been imprisoned and harassed through the years. Their son Vol. Gerard Logue died on active duty some years previously. If you can let me know which parts of the song "Pól" are difficult to grasp, I'll let you know or if needs be I'll write all the words for you.

Ó do chara

Micky K.
