Judy Cook will be over from America shortly. She is a wonderful singer and will be appearing at various venues around the country. She has agreed to come to me in Stanstead Abbotts, Near Ware, Herts to for a House Concert on WEDNESDAY 9TH MARCH.

It will be a Song and Supper evening and tickets are £10 for a two course supper and an evening of Judy singing Anglo American songs and ballads.

If you are interested, please pm me and I'll let you have further details.

Lynne

Testimonial time! If you haven't heard Judy, try to go to this event. She not only has a wide-ranging repertoire of really interesting songs, and knows a great deal about them, but her joy in singing them is infectious, and makes her a joy to hear.

Judy does a great show. She has performed at several fox valley folklore society events over the years and we'd have her back!

This sounds like a great evening. It's the kind of evenings Judy and Dennis like to have in their home -- lots of good food and singing.

Judy and Dennis have been in our folklore society for about 18 years. Judy's singing started out being very good and a pleasure to hear. Then it got to be wonderful. Now it's getting better than that.

It's hard to describe someone's singing talent in words but I'll see what I can do.

Judy almost always sings unaccompanied. Her voice is rich and expressive and satisfying. She has a huge repertoire with a lot of variety. She particularly loves American versions of British and Scottish ballads, and American traditional songs of all kinds, and historic songs, and comic songs, and ....

She brings life to each song. She's wonderful at putting over a story and giving you the feeling of a song. Whether it's a ballad or comic song or 19th century pop song, her delivery is just right. The timbre of her voice is rich, as I said, and it's great for really emotional old ballads. When she does a comic song she has some of the flair and vivid expressiveness that you used to hear in old fashioned recitations.

Okay, Judy, if you want me to say any more you're gonna have to give me another 5 bucks.

Hey! She only offered me three!...and I was gonna explain how well she learned everything I taught her about music!....well, I guess you'll just wonder about the details...

5 bucks...hmmmmppfff...

(well, I can say *I* knew her when she only thought about singing in front of lotsa people....drive, love of the music and talent sure are a nice combination, huh?)

I remember Judy's singing from the Getaway. Bright, clear voice and wonderful songs. And you get to eat a good meal too. Wish I could be there.

A superb singer and a wonderful hostess. I wish I could be there, Lynne, but it's a bit far for the evening. Do you have her other UK dates?

Grimsby is NOT in Yorkshire. It never was and it never will be !!

Before a brief spell as part of Humberside, it was in LINCOLNSHIRE. It is now a part of North East LINCOLNSHIRE.

Hello All,

Thank you to Lynne for starting this thread, suggesting I look at it, & posting my schedule! Kath, Jerry, Sinsull, Phil, Padre, Leadfingers, Ferrara, Mike, Snuffy, thank you all very much for kind comments. Bill Day --- we'll chat.

I am really looking forward to seeing all of you who can make it. One of the joys of last year's trips was having Mudcatters come and introduce themselves to me at almost every club. What a fantastic "Family" we have.

Doug C. Thanks for pointing out the mistake! It's entirely my fault; Lynne took the information directly from my website www.JudyCook.net. I now have Grimsby restored to NE Lincs where it belongs. I welcome other folks to proofread and send me messages (pm's preferred) correcting the doubtless numerous errors there. I do get befuddled.

See you soon, Judy Cook

And let me give you a warning. This comes from experience. If, per chance, you should happen to be late coming into her song, DO NOT WALK THROUGH THAT DOOR!!!!! A couple of years back, at the Getaway, I was coming back to the Mudcat cabin from another session. The singaround was in full swing, and I heard this wonderful voice. I couldn't wait to walk in. I opened that door, and was incorporated into the song immediately. The big, tough Union Organizer image that I have spent over a quarter century crafting went right out the door and I haven't seen it since. Another time Judy was singing and Liam's Brother and I were in the back of the room singing Pointer Sister harmonies and dancing. Yeah ...... you are in for a treat.

Enjoy this immensely talented singer. I sure do. Now ..... where did that tough guy persona get off too????

Mick

BB - I love hearing raves about clubs where I'm going the first time.

Col K & BB - I hope to see you soon.

The clubs where I've been before are favorites. Those new to me sound grand too. I think it's going to be a very good trip.

Yes, we've just seen Judy and Dennis safely on thier way to Leeds University for a lunchtime gig (very learned you know!)in the snow but fortunately the motorway was comparatively clear this morning.

Judy and Dennis, great night, we enjoyed your company, shame that time was so limited.

I'm so envious of all of you... you who get to hear Judy for the first (or 432nd) time, and of Judy and Dennis, who must be having a blast. You know, Dennis can sing, to: I heard it myself!

And, guys? I'm unemployed now: can please I come next time and carry your luggage and polish your shoes?? I promise to behave.

I remember that moment when Mick walked in so well. Never have seen the video, but as I recall it, the song was "Tails and Trotters".
