End of the Pier show?

EVERY Monday afternoon, senior citizens from all over the north of England gather at the Pier Hotel in Morecambe for an Old Time Music Hall sing-song.

However I was not aware - nor I suspect is anyone else that 'we' now allow music related copy-pastes. Perhaps you can announce this change?
    That's always been the case, Shambles, and it's stated that way in the FAQ. Music copy-pastes are encouraged, although we do ask that people indicate where they obtained all copy-paste information. Information often disappears from the Internet, and links die - so we want to preserve pertinent music information here. Non-music copy-pastes should be covered by a summary and a link if they fill more than one screen.
    But no, there's no reason for the same article to be posted twice at Mudcat. Your post will preserve the article just fine. I'll delete mine.

I have visions of my great grandchildren saying 'sing us one of the old songs, Granny?' and Limpit having to tell them she doesn't know any because singing was banned by Emperor Blair in 2008.....

Well I think they should all be put under house arrest for terrorising Morecombe in this way, and those 'speakeasy' gambling joints or 'Bingo Clubs' should be closed down... these senior hooligans should be taught better behaviour by their parents... they are obviously responsible for the increase in gum crime... that Miss Marple should get some Community Support Officers to help her.....

We thought the "Two in a Bar" rule was dead?

and a "Music License" was Free when applied for with the new pub License - They might have work to do for the stage/trips etc but that's the same whether it's a brass band, choir or a solo organist.

The Premises Licence can now be applied for (as from February 2005) but the current legislation does not die until November 2005.

You may have thought however that in this tranistion period, local authorities would have acted sensibly. But if they had ever acted sensibly - there would have been no need to change the law to try and make them.

In this case - if the music hall carried just on (and applied for entertainment permission with their new Premises Licence) - any prosecution would be very unlikely. And as there is no real safety issue - it is in nobody's interest to prevent this activity.

There may be a few of this regular audience thet may qualify for legal aid. They could make a case for their right of freedom of expression being prevented by the Council - when there were no grounds to do so.....

If I had known that it would cause this much trouble I wouldn't have mentioned it.

I was just intending to highlight the confusion that exists around live music legislation in this country and that much of it is left to the interpretation of individual bureaucrats.
