26 Feb 05 - 04:57 PM (#1421763) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: GUEST,Jon I'd Go (G) In a neat little town they call (C)Bell(G)Fast That's the trouble with a request for "THE" chords. I've not tried them all and I wouldn't know a sus4 if it hit me but it's possible all versions would work. |
26 Feb 05 - 05:25 PM (#1421786) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: Peace Sus4 Do a normal D chord, and on the treble E string where your finger is on the second fret (F#), put your pinkie finger on the G note on the third fret. |
26 Feb 05 - 05:57 PM (#1421804) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: Clinton Hammond AKA X00233 :-) (where a D is written X00232) |
26 Feb 05 - 06:23 PM (#1421817) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: Peace For me it's 200233 I use the thumb to catch the bass string. Makes a 'blue note', but they are octaves apart so it doesn't matter. |
26 Feb 05 - 06:24 PM (#1421819) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: Peace PS That is a neat system for naming chords. Thank you, CH. |
26 Feb 05 - 07:59 PM (#1421880) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: Clinton Hammond 200232 is my prefed. D as well... |
26 Feb 05 - 08:07 PM (#1421894) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: Peace With you on that, Clinton. I also get lotsa mileage from the G that goes 355033 I know it's modal, but it's cool. |
26 Feb 05 - 08:09 PM (#1421899) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: Amos The look like a barred G minor, brucie...how do you do it with the "G" string open? A |
26 Feb 05 - 08:19 PM (#1421905) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: M.Ted I usually stay away from discussions of Irish stuff--but I am compelled to add my bit here, since the chords offered don't really follow the tune--Firstly, though it D a fine key, A is better for this on guitar, and G is lifeless--Play it in six/eight time--three counts for each letter(there is one measure between the slash marks)--as to the lyrics--you know where they go-- ||A F#m/A A/A F#m/E7 E7/ A A/F#m F#m/Bm E7/A A|| |
26 Feb 05 - 08:23 PM (#1421908) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: Peace Name your fingers from thumb to pinkie. Thumb is I, pinky is V--Roman Numerals. So, thumb at bass G on third fret is I3. Chord is done thus: I-3, IV-5, V-5, 0, II-3, II-3 The duplication there is from the forefinger covering both the B and E strings at the third fret. |
26 Feb 05 - 08:31 PM (#1421913) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: Peace One more thing, Amos. Getting the thumb to function with this chord is a neat thing to do. I learned it from Richie Haves. It is 'bad' technigue, but it opens up some really good possibilities. I make almost all my "E formation" bar chords in this manner--major OR minor. Gets too difficult past the 9th fret--depends on the size of your hands I guess. Neat way to do it though because it lends itself to 'easy and fast' ascending and descending chords in that formation. Good for rock or folk, IMO. |
26 Feb 05 - 09:38 PM (#1421957) Subject: RE: Chord Req: Black Velvet Band From: M.Ted No need to use all your fingers up with that chord--you get exactly the same notes if you play--and no need to use your thumb at all. 3-x-0-0-3-3 It isn't really a chord, just a fifth interval--Gs and Ds--we used to use it to accompany Romanian fiddling, and, if you don't change to something else, it is modal-- |
