Tech: help on background of framus guitar

Hi there

can anyone tell me more about the framus in the photograph? My Dad just picked up these two and sent me the photograph. He reckons the framus is a 12 string, but could it be that the nut has just been cut that way?

Appreciate any pointers that people can give

Thanks
Rich

the guitar does look more robust than my 6 string Framus Texan, with the metal stirup to hold the strings too, but the head does not seem to be pierced for 12 tensioners - has it ever been?

there is a distinct family resemblance, though my guitar is definitely in a cheaper mould - the head is not angled back like the pictured one, so it requires a metal brace above the nut to hold the strings down. That means it can be cut from a thinner piece of wood. Also, the tensioners are perpendicular to the head, not sunk into it like that one.

I have regularly been asked to sell my guitar, though could this be a well known chat up line in folk circles?

Scooter,
I have an old Framus that has a similar body with an arched, unbraced back but mine has a fixed bridge rather than the tailpiece. It has a different neck, 14 fret to body and no slotted peghead. It has a 0 (zoro) fret as does the one in your picture. With a 0 fret the only job of the nut is to hold the string spacing, so it is cut very low. This dosen't look to me like it was a 12 string.
The neck on mine required a lot of work but it has the best sound of anything that I own.
    Regards,

Having recently been asking similar questions about my Nashville, I went to the Framus website, where they have a section on vintage Framus guitars. You might find some info there.

I'm not much good with blickeys, but I found it with a search for "Framus guitars", and although it's a German firm, they do offer an English option to the site.
