LAst night at 8pm (GMT), thursday, my son Francy, was rushed to hospital with breathlessness and accelerated heart rate to the triage dept of the Royal Berks Hospital.

Many many thanks to all ;-)

Francy's being moved today from the Royal Berk's A&E/CDU to Minster Ward over at the Battle, for a few days, maybe a week.

His breathing's still doing Darth Vader ipmressions, but his heart rate's down to 145bpm(av).

I'm sure your continued good thoughts and prayers are helping no end ;-)

Best thoughts and wishes for the best possible outcome, Wrinkles, and for comfort for you, your son, and all of your loved ones during this time.

His symptoms sound a lot like what I experience when I'm having a severe allergic reaction to something I've eaten. Are they checking for that possibility? (I've been to the hospital emergency room on a few occasions for the same symptoms, and the Drs. never figured out I was having a severe allergic reaction. It was only after several years of my own efforts that I got that sorted out.)

Also check into "Anxiety Reaction" ( also called "Anxiety Dosorder" or "Panic Attack")... Sounds like classic symptoms...

I had a bout of it back about 25 years ago. Real scarey. But readily treatable...

If it turns out to be that, either PM me or have your son PM and I will relate more information about it...

Latest update is that his heart rate has been reduced by drugs to a "mere" 89bpm at rest (still a bit high) and moved to a non-critical ward.

Hoever the standard of care there has me very concerned. He spliped and fell after getting out of bed, knocked hinself unconscious, and when he awoke (unable to get up of course) it was over two hours before a nurse answered his call.

Furthermore they've moved him onto a ward where none of the nursing staff are quailifed to admisinster his regular medication!

eventually, by 11am this morning they found a doctor able to admisnister his 7am injection! At least that Dr was concientious enough to order a head x-ray to see if he was badly concussed.

Later that Dr will return with an "assesment team" to do god knows what, but lets hope it's something good!

He still has the chest infection, but it does not seem to be getting worse; which is something to be thankful for.

He sends all of you his thanks for your good wishes and prayers; knowing that there's folk who care has helped him face this adversity.
Thank you all.

Barbara

Sure you are rushed off your feet, but document everything and put in a complaint on your son's discharge.

latest update; infection getting worse (Drs took him off intravenious antibiotics which were working before full course was done and put him on pills which don't work); heart rate back up to the 140/150s.

Still lots of problems getting his regular meds - thery're allways late (5 hours late in one example) and up to 10 mg less than prescribed. This particular hospital does not approve of this type of treatment and they're doing everything they can to screw it up for him.

He's on a recovery heart ward and he should be on an acute observation pulmanary ward. There's been plans to move him but as yet nowts happend.

Discrimination and abuse have been problems too; but I can not be there 24/7 to intervine on his behalf.

It's been hell for him too and these few days have been the most stressfull I can remember living through.

Moneywise the hospital's 24/7 one quid an hour parking charges do not help; just going to and from the hospitals and staying there with him has emptied our accounts and overdrawn our overdrafts -; Recovery after this is going to be slow slow slow.

I've hidden just what deep shit we're getting into from Francy because he'd blame himself for it and that would not be fair at all.

Sorry to have been on such a downer folks, I just needed to vent a bit. Thanks for being understanding

Barbara

latest update, and hopefully the penultimate one ;-)

Well P.A.L.S. have intervened for Francy and sorted most things out.

Francy's on the right type of ward now (where he can get appropriate care) and he's getting his regular meds again.

They even got him a Physio to show him how to keep his lungs clear, and he's breathing better than he has for years.

The new docs say they'll have his infection cleared up in a few days (which will bring his heart rate back down again) and he should be home before the end of the week ;-)

Just his knowing that all you Mudcatters were thinking of him and wishing him well helped him endure the early mixed up days and he sends you all his thanks; to which I add my own ; Thank You All.

Barbara

Re the car park charges:
Try asking for a reduction, or even a pass.

When my mum was in hospital (St. Peters, Chertsey, not too far from Royal Berks.), we were eventually given a pass to keep the cost down.

Made quite a difference !.

HE'S HOME ;-)

The infection is cleared up and he's out of danger, so he was discharged with a load of medicines for self-treatment.

Our heartfelt thanks to you all.

You made us feel we were not alone, and that's a gift that can not be valued, it is beyond price.

Again, thank you.

Glad to hear he's home and over the worst - but healing hugs on the way just the same. I expect YOU probably need them as much as him after all the stress.

Lots of love and hugs
