19 Mar 05 - 11:32 PM (#1438674) Subject: BS: Did You March on March 19? From: LadyJean I marched from Forbes and Murray to the University of Pittsburgh Student Union this afternoon, to protest this interminable war in Iraq. I was with Democracy for America. We were joined by the Raging Grannies, St. James Catholic Church, the pink slip ladies, the green party. I'm not sure who brought the mule, but there were animal rights activists, to make sure the mule was not abused, and the a man with a shovel to make sure the mule left no souvenirs. We met with no trouble except for a group of drunk frat rats, who were standing beside placards with slogans like Nuke Iraq, and Use Soap. There was a brief confrontation, quickly ended. Those boys will be laughing out of the other sides of their mouths when their draft notices come. All in all it was a very positive experience. I don't think we accomplished a great deal. But perhaps a couple of congressmen got a message. |

20 Mar 05 - 02:53 PM (#1439082) Subject: RE: BS: Did You March on March 19? From: Ebbie There was a demonstration yesterday in Juneau Alaska bringing together 'Veterans for Peace' and 'Juneau for Peace and Justice' and whoever else was able to make it. They carried a flag draped box symbolizing death. I didn't hear it but some friends of mine said that there were some high school kids who taunted the crowd about 'sand niggers'. One kid asked, "What's in the box?" "It symbolizes 1500 American troops dead and 100,000 civilian deaths in Iraq." "Can I climb in and get a ride?" he asked. The answer: "Yes. You may find yourself doing that." |

20 Mar 05 - 03:45 PM (#1439110) Subject: RE: BS: Did You March on March 19? From: Frankham Congratulations to those who marched. This is true patriotism. Patriotism is defined in my view as being able to criticize the government when you think it is doing the wrong thing and in so doing take a stand to defend your country. I was marching in spirit. 20 Mar 05 - 03:51 PM (#1439114) Subject: RE: BS: Did You March on March 19? From: Stephen L. Rich The President asked Congress for $81.4 billion dollars more to maintain his adventurism in Iraq. The House voted 388 to 43 in favor of giving it to him. This means that most of the Democrats in the House are acting in the same pavlovian fashion as the Republicans. When Dubya rings the bell they all drool. I don't like the war either, but it's too late. march all you like. Nobody in our govenment is paying any attention to you. As long as Haliburton is making money the war will continue. Stephen Lee. |

LTS" Well, I had a number of choices- I could have stayed at home and watched Wales winning the Grand Slam for the first time since the Carboniferous era. I could have walked out of my front door in Derbyshire and gone for a walk in beautiful (misty) countryside. I could have worked on my neverending kitchen. I chose instead to make a pathetic gesture against the criminal actions of the irresponsible goverment of this country that I care about so much. |
