22 Mar 05 - 04:11 AM (#1440312) Subject: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: Emma B Yesterday during one of those slightly "off-centre" moments in mudchat I admitted to having a mental picture of a "real" room. My chat room is like one of those workplace "staff rooms" used for an illicit smoke, coffee breaks, lunchtime sandwiches or just a brief sanctuary for news and gossip. It has the "unofficial" kettle and a large collection of personal mugs; the seating is mostly salvaged from somewhere else in the "firm" and there is a large overstuffed settee whose origins are lost in mythology. The cleaners never venture into this hallowed space and there is often a faint lingering smell of a take-away curry The ubiquitous spider plant on the window ledge seems to thrive in an atmosphere of benign neglect and you never know just who is going to drop in at any moment......... Where do you hang out Chatters? |

From: freda underhill my living room has a persian carpet, old tapestry couches, bookshelves and artwork on the walls. the floors are cork, my cat is usually curled up either on my lap or on a chair pulled up next to me. a wicker washing basket is often in the corner, full of clothes waiting to be put away. there are huge windows lookig out to a japanese maple, with its beautiful spring green leaves dripping everywhere.. the computer is against one wall, always waiting for attention.. |

Maybe it's because no one 'paints' an image like in the Mudcat Tavern threads. |

And the thong modelling ? I don't get into the Mudchat like I used to a couple of years ago, but I do hope at least some of these activities are still going strong in there. - jeanie |

22 Mar 05 - 04:05 PM (#1440912) Subject: RE: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: MBSLynne Yes...my image of the chat room has a long bar at one end WITH a bar around the bottom that you can put your foot on if you're leaning against it (the bar, not the bar..er...if you see what i mean)A couple of high bar-stools for people who want to sit there and listen to the conversation going on in front of the log fire at the opposite end of the room, around which are ranged a variety of comfy armchairs and settees. The floor is wood with various rugs scattered around, and the little tables here and there so you have somewhere to put your drink, have bowls of nibbles on them. On the wall is a sign written in large black letters "BEWARE OF THE DOORS!!".............. |

22 Mar 05 - 04:27 PM (#1440924) Subject: RE: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: Sorcha Lynne's room, but I'm adding critters wandering in and out, a nice garden with tables etc out back for nice weather, a parrot in a corner, Joe and Max in a dark corner talking and ignoring all of us. Trap door in the floor with a hungry mountain lion under it, or an ejector seat. |

22 Mar 05 - 04:49 PM (#1440946) Subject: RE: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: jimmyt I like the pub scene but I would like a window that looks out on the moors or over the rooftops of Edinburgh or some such place. Possibly a shingle beach in view like Carole and Rumanci look out on the south coast ( I know Carole now is hanging out in Wales but it helped the image) A creaky hand-painted sign out front that says Ye Olde Dentist and Thong or some such picturesque pub name. Lots of empty bottles and cans left over from late night drinking sessions with Tessa, Sorcha, Emma, Leadfingers, Coolhand Tom, Rumanci and Oaklet. An entire area fro the care and feeding of Autoharps for Ian McFlute.A small blue cafe out front with only 2 tables, one is never occupied. I will have to let my mind wander a bit and possibly add more later! |

From: Clinton Hammond Maybe one day the internet will be broad-band enough that such 'visions' will be possible (some say that for instance, in the case of online RPGs it's got some of the way already) But I can promise you, the Mudcat server'd never be able to run it! 22 Mar 05 - 06:40 PM (#1441056) Subject: RE: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: freda underhill okay, my chat room has been renovated.. I'm in a hobbit-hole, built into the earth, windows high up at ground level. walls are made from earth, floors from rocks hauled down from the nearby mountain, and slate from the river. up high, close to the ceiling, are windows, stained glass, each one a different colour of the rainbow, comprising different shades of that colour. through those windows you can see my herb gardens and long grass. I have a huge embroidered tapestry on one wall, depicting a hobbit version of Bruegel's "the Peasant Dance" - with all my favourite aussie folkies as the characters. on the stove is a big pot of shorwa (afghan soup) and over to one side is a huge easel and canvas - huge in hobbit-size - and a half completed painting. my easel and brushes and dozens of tubes of paint are to one side. over on the soft couches in the living area are several hobbit musicians, playing concertina, fiddle, and flute. while i type, i have my feet soaking in a tub of warm to hot water, infused with lavender oil, tea tree oil and parsley. I am wearing colourful robes of shades of purple, pink, violet and grey silk - an exotic caftan that was given to me by the queen of the faeries. my beautiful cats Deli and Baxter have grown in size, or is it that I'm so much smaller.. ? and my computer screen is like a large, many faceted crystal - through it, i can see interesting faces from around the world. i listen to voices, laughs, and songs. my chatroom also has a portal to the stars - in the ceiling in a skylight - through is i can see blue skies, pink cluds, and sometimes galaxies and comets.. and on some days, hear the sounds of celestial singing. oops! computer's craashe.. |

22 Mar 05 - 07:26 PM (#1441080) Subject: RE: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: Don(Wyziwyg)T I'm yer classic two finger trypist (grin), and both of 'em 64 years old. So the chat room, for me, is like a production line that's running at warp factor nine, producing twenty seven products, in no particular order, to each of which I have to fit a different part. It takes me so long to find a reply, that the guy I'm trying to talk to has gone home by the time I answer. That's probably why I've only been there twice. Still, the headache is fading now, after only a couple of weeks, so I may try again come the summer hols, when I'll have three weeks to spare. Don T. |

22 Mar 05 - 08:36 PM (#1441151) Subject: RE: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: jimmyt Actually my room is in a 8X8 cell with a stainless steel toilet right next to the screen. I have a cot, 3 magazines, a 4 foot braided rug, and a picture of mother Teresa on the wall right below a poster( autographed )of Ronald Mc DOnald. My cellmate, Bubba, is here right now and I would like to stay and chat, but for whatever reason, he feels rather amorous, and he has splashed a little Jade East behind his ear and has his best sweatshirt on, so I will have to be gone for a little while on a date. (God, where is Oaklet when you need him?) |

22 Mar 05 - 08:50 PM (#1441161) Subject: RE: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: JennyO My chatroom is pretty much the way I have imagined the Mudcat Tavern - a circular bar on the left, some comfy chairs and tables on the right, and several doors leading to the different parts of the world. The special thing about these doors though, is that they are revolving doors, and if you get too close to them, they will suck you out. When a lot of people are in there, it is like the pub at lunchtime with lots of noisy chatter, and it's hard to make yourself heard. I've been known to pass the Guinness around while in there. I think the best time I've had in this chatroom so far was one day when a whole bunch of people were in there "singing" do-wop songs. I think there was Foolestroupe, Amos, freda, Ellenpoly, Sinsull, Alaska Mike, rumanci, and a few others coming and going - great fun. I don't think you can plan those things though - it has to be spontaneous. |

22 Mar 05 - 08:55 PM (#1441163) Subject: RE: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: jimmyt My room is a library with bookshelves up to the 12 foot level of a 16 foot ceiling. It is paneled with cherry wood recovered from an old estate in Kentucky. It has heart pine floors recovered from a burned out Baptist church, that was 200 years old. I have a Persian rug on my floor. Above me I can see the entrance to a secret room where the last owner kept jewlery and gold coins. On a shelf is a sterling silver cream and sugar from the Kremlin. There are double doors and 10 foot windows. I am surrounded by musical instruments of all description among which is a panpipe, several recorders, 2 guitars, a tenor banjo, a bunch of penny whistles, 2 watercolors of the gates in Chester, a map of Suffolk, an American Flag, a bass fiddle bow, a 17 inch copy of the Eiffel Tower, a wooden seachest full of alcohol bottles, and an oilpainting of a cafe scene of Aix en Provence. |

22 Mar 05 - 09:11 PM (#1441175) Subject: RE: BS: What does your chatroom look like? From: artbrooks Actually, mine is much like Lynne's...basically a cozy, comfortable pub. The chairs all mostly leather; some are firm and some are the kind that a person can sink into. The floors are covered haphazardly with high-quality Oriental and Navaho carpets. There is a drink machine like Callahan's on the bar, capable of fixing any and every imaginable mixed drink, and three interspacial portals, each with a tap sticking out. One pours any requested beer or ale (except anything made by Coors, Budweiser or Miller), the others do the same for every possible variety and vintage of wine and port and every kind of Scotch and lesser whiskey. The hot tub is in one alcove and the massage table is in another. |
