Thank you, Doug. :-) Yes, today IS the glorious day. Check out Mr Shatner's entire filmography at:

The Shatner Filmography & Bio

Note that the Shatman was born on the 22nd of the month...the day of highest power, numerologically speaking.

Well done, DougR!!

Bill:

You are an overpaid, talent-free, noxious carrier of cellulose and cholesterol; your value on earth is limited to carrying wrinkles around until they can break free. You have less talent than a pup in a hurricane, and you are obese and self-satisfied and conceited as well. You deserve your well-earned obscurity and I hope it continues and grows.

The sheer depth of your vitriolic jealousy toward William Shatner makes me deeply sad, Amos. You will never attain peace of mind as long as you insist on comparing yourself to the incomparable.

I couldn't be bothered, Leedle Hack; Bill knows he could not stand up to such scrutiny. I sing better as a hobby than he does professionally; I was a better actor at age 16 than he has ever been. There's just no comparison, man. Fahgeddaboudit!!

Bill Who?

Besides, LH, there are myriad households in which I am a household name, usually in expressions about what will happen "if that (household name) ever shows up around here again". Even if I were not, I don't see what that has to do with quality -- which criteria are you barking on about? Do you think popular recognition and quality are linked, somehow? Fie!

Shatner is a sham.   Everytime he accepts a job, he is stealing money from legit actors that could do a better job in the role. The fact that people help perpetuate the myth that Shatner has a place in the entertainment industry is another shame. Just like people who keep Britanny Spears in business by buying her recordings, you are creating the same type of pornography by allowing Shatner into your homes.

He must be stopped. Pull the plug on this clown.

There. Just LOOK at that noble visage, gazing past Carol and her friend in that manly and commanding fashion that few can imitate and none can match.

Ron Olesko, you are the one who is vermin. You have gone beyond the pale in your frenzied attempts to vilify a man who has boldly gone where no man went before, a man who has redefined popular music singlehandedly, a man who has expanded the boundaries of visionary thought and creative art. You, sir, are despicable!

I have written your name, "Ron Olesko", down on a sheet of toilet paper here. Later tonight I and an assembly of the Shatnerite faithful will gather and consign this doomed shred of paper to the flames of perdition in a ceremony which will bring the full wrath of the Gods of Outer Space down upon your head. You will be cursed and derided forever and ever, yea, until the rivers run dry and the little hysterical dogs all stop barking. You will be expunged utterly from the ranks of your fellow humans and driven forth to wander miserably in the infernal regions for all eternity.

You have taken the name of Shatner in vain on his birthday! Now be prepared to pay the awful price.

I spoke with Bill last evening via ICQ and I wished him a grand birthday. I told him I planned to create a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BILL" thread on Mudcat and he asked me to not do so.

He explained that, though he loves being an Icon at Mudcat, there have been a few times that things were mentioned that he would have preferred to forget. I asked him if he would share with me those subjects, so that I would not join in any further discussions of them here.

Immediately, Bill said "Tom Jones". It was obvious this was a sore subject & I asked him to elaborate. He said that he didn't really mind that it had been published on Mudcat that he had been a big supporter of folk music in the late 1950s, & had written several songs with Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie (though Shatner did not take nor want credit for his contribution to the songs!), but due to a personality clash that developed in the early 1970s, he no longer wished his name to be associated with Tom Jones, even though it was he who brought Jones over from Wales & made possible Jones' first ( & only) folk album, "Front Porch Pickin'" (in which Shatner plays an excellent guitar & banjo!). He said that he had really loved the young Jones and it broke his heart when Jones tossed folk music out the door for the love of a lousy buck. But he understood Jones' "career move" and Bill helped him establish himself in that genre. However, Jones was asked to allow Shatner to sing "Mr. Tambourine Man" on the TV program "This Is Tom Jones", Jones refused, saying Shatner was not "musically viable". Needless to say, this cut Bill deep.

After Bill and I discussed this, I asked him about the infamous "Dylan / Shatner" recording sessions. At this point Bill became wroth, began using words so foul I shudder just to recall them. The connection was abruptly broken.

I realized that I was a fault...I should have asked instead about the "Shatner / Dylan" sessions.

All my attempts to re-establish communications have thus far been futile.

Anyway, Bill, if you are reading, I am sorry. And I do prefer your version of "Mr Tambourine Man" over Bob's.

Happy Birthday, Mr MAN!

k

Little Hawk, you must seek help now!!!   Get out of that tarpaper shack and start talking to real people again. There is a cure for this delusion that you are suffering. You can be deprogrammed. If you don't seek help soon, we will end up hearing stories how you shaved your head and were caught giving out flowers at airports.

Shatner is the gum on the shoe of the entertainment industry. He is an annoyance, unnecessary to the function of the shoe, and a pain in the neck to scrape off. He must be avoided at all cost.

Burn his damn LP's and shred those Star Trek tapes! Get out your "Sebastian Cabot Sings Dylan" LP and start on your road to recovery.

There is a very good reason why SHAT is part of his name.

Yes, Bill, it is I, Ricardo, portrayer of your arch-nemesis Khan! Happy birthday!

I know how much you love horses and I was going to send you a new saddle made of rich Corinthian leather, but I just couldn't afford it. Not all of us have been fortunate enough to have as many bones thrown our way in our latter years as you have, my friend. Those residuals from syndicated "Love Boat" reruns don't go as far as you might think. You probably get as much for a one-minute PriceLine commercial as I get for an entire season of "The plane, boss! The plane!" Perhaps Daimler-Chrysler will start using rich Corinthian leather in their cars again. Nobody says "Rich Corinthian leather" like Ricardo!

Now, Bill, just for old time's sake... Go ahead... You know you want to do it! Come on... Let it out....

Ricardo Montalban was the actor, after John Wayne, most egregiously at fault for constantly imitating HIMSELF with excruciating exactitude. I sure hope he didn't talk to his family like that when he was offscreen, but I fear he did.

He was enjoyable as Khan, though. The part suited his characteristically overembellished style.

It's no use. Clearly Mister Sh***r's evil miasma of infectious and debilitating smog has spread deep into Little Hawks tissues, infecting his brain and his spine both. He's not who he was -- not even human, in the normal sense. He's dead, Jim. Little Hawk has been taken, and in his once brilliant if spurious place, a foul gray slime from the depths of Boskone has taken over, the spittle from the drainpipe of Darth Vader's respirator, the scum on the bottom of the universe, the detritus of the Cosmos' lowest waste elimination process... and that is really too bad, because I was holding out hope for that boy to finally become something.

Just wait, Bill... your turn will come.

Actually, he has been required to portray such a situation many times during the filming of Star Trek. He describes it in an amusing way in his book, "Get A Life". I'll try and find the quote later...

Just imagine convulsing your features in a grotesque grimace, gasping, half-doubling over, bugging your eyes way out, clenching your jaws, and moving your arms in jerky motions like a frog that's being electrocuted. That sort of covers it...

Heh! Yeah, but if you think Kirk was overacting, what about DeForest Kelly's portrayal of "Bones"? And those rows he'd get in with Spock all the time, while Kirk looked on with amusement? That show was a classic at the time, but became funnier and funnier as the decades went by and social styles changed.

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday William Shatner

Damn shame that Kirk and the lads never did a time travel back to Victorian-era Scotland. They could have teamed up with William McGonagall in an episode set in Edinburgh, and Kirk and McGonagall could have had a poetry reciting competition onstage at some establishment, which would have been downright mesmerizing. They could even have portrayed the duel between MacBeth and MacDuff.

Actually, that came from a list by the television set made by the original Trekheads - kids who came in to the television room in dorm to watch Star Trek repeats after classes. I remember:

- Scotty says "She can't take much more of this
- Spock Raises Eyebrow
- McCoys says "I'm a Doctor not a ________________
- The aforementioned Kirk in Agony
and
- Kirk scores with Alien (in them days naturally a FEMALE alien and has anyone mentioned how this guy has had more intergalactic nookie than anyone but Barbarella? - kinda deserves its own reward).

And of course, William Shatner as subject of Ska lyrics:

From The Scofflaws:

A Tribute to William Shatner

he got a fine tan shirt with an emblem on the chest
the interstellar girls all like him the best
captain of the crew and he knows kung fu
and he did joan collins in 1932
really just an actor, and a genius to boot
he never gets to fire when the enemy shoots
so he ends each show looking neat and clean
after staring down the mouth of a doomsday machine
i really like the one where he reads the constitution
after ending all the fighting in a future revolution

WILLIAM SHATNER !!

Well, I've heard it now... :-) We will enter that into the minutes of the next WSSBA meeting and see if we can find evidence of its truth or falsehood.

Great William Day (March 22) was a spendid success here. The WSSBA held an open house, and thousands of accolytes showed up from all over the World, even some from Kazakhstan. We were unable to persuade Mr Shatner himself to attend, but we showed movies of the Shatman in action from dawn to dusk and played his greatest hits at top volume, attracting many curious spectators, some of whom have bought WSSBA lifetime memberships (only $500). We also burned Ron Olesko in effigy. It was great. You shoulda been there.

When he was younger he seems to have been fairly good at separating girls from their "virtue" too, according to stuff I've heard from people who went to school with him.
