Hesperis Launches New CD!

Created over just the last month, "Favorite Folk Ballads and Songs" is a beautiful and occasionally haunting rendition of some old favorites such as Danny Boy, Sally Gardens, Early One Morning, If I Had A Million Dollars, The Boatman, etc.

It features voice, harp, and flute.

Enjoy!

Is this an April Fools' joke, or is there really a new CD?

I didn't have the chance to get online much recently and I was so scared there wouldn't be any responses... so thank you folks!

This is a *partial* April Fools' joke ("If I Had A Million Dollars" was a teensy little clue), as I do not yet have a CD... I am definitely working on a new CD of Folk songs and tunes starting in May! We'll see how long it takes me to record it once I've moved to the new place in Toronto, since I've already begun practicing and busking. Just learned The Boatman recently. Oh, my, God, GORGEOUS SONG!

Sorry to get your hopes up in advance though.

I just got a couple of fiddle tune books off amazon, too, so I could learn more fiddly tunes on flute. Learning some pieces that I didn't know I knew before, like "La Bastringue" and "King of the Fairies" both of which I've danced to in Sacred Circle Dance and showed up in the book.

So it might be favorite ballads and tunes by the time I'm done, rather than favorite ballads and songs.

I'll keep this thread for progress reports on the real CD, alright?

Bah, May. That place didn't work out... yeesh. You don't even want to know what happened with that one.

Anyway. 37% arranged just in the last week. Mostly flute, some other instruments, some really cool percussion. Wish I could get more live instruments in it but I can't afford session musicians or to split royalties at this point.

Working on a few more arrangements today.

Will do, guys!

60% arranged. Just another few to go and then I record all the live bits and tweak the computery bits.

Tentative CD title is Simple Gifts after the song.

It's going to be difficult to record much over this next month as I'm getting a tooth out. I was really hoping to have had everything recorded by now... *sigh*

However, the new website is up, and there's clips from previous albums to download, and there will be news of the new album there as well.

I'm trying to arrange to start recording as soon as I recover from the tooth, which will be 3-4 weeks from now depending on how soon I can get the work done.

Thanks for your interest, guys!

The arrangements are done for the new album and I'm seeking ways to come up with the funding. I want this one professionally mastered.

   1. The Ash Grove
   2. Wondrous Love
   3. Greensleeves
   4. Simple Gifts
   5. Joy of Angels (a different arrangement than on my first CD)
   6. Swallowtail Jig
   7. King of the Fairies
   8. Early One Morning
   9. Shenandoah
10. L'Allouette Sur La Branche
11. Dans En Dro
12. Rose of Raby
13. Mystery Bonus Track 1
14. Mystery Bonus Track 2

My favorite instrumentals, in a Neo-Celtic style with flutes, harp, world percussion. The only original is Joy of Angels, but it fits the album in this arrangement.

The old album does still have a few copies left at CD Baby. It's new age, mostly instrumental with a few songs.

It features voice, harp, and flute.

Mystery Bonus Tracks 13 and 14 are vocals, or it's an all-instrumental CD?

All the pieces are instrumental on Simple Gifts. (A vocal album of Traditional Celtic is in the works as well, however the instrumental one is ready to record and the vocal one still needs a lot of arranging and busking.)

I'm planning a Christmas album for after this one though Susan, you'll LOVE it!
