02 Apr 05 - 08:42 AM (#1449943) Subject: RE: BS: Pope watch From: GUEST So yesterday in our library at school, we had the TV turned on to CNN, because a teacher had requested it. So some kids walk in and see that there is the "breaking news" story when CNN was announcing the pope had died, and then had to come back and eat crow when the Vatican quickly came out and officially denied the CNN report. So this girl says to her posse "CNN just announced he died so we'll all watch CNN instead of Fox". Nice to know at least some kids are media savvy. |

02 Apr 05 - 10:47 AM (#1450026) Subject: RE: BS: Pope watch From: GUEST Apparently "faithful" Christians these days are more keyed into the apocalyptic end times than they are the resurrection and the rebirth side of the equation. Which makes ironic, metaphoric sense of the times we are living in. The Xtians, at some level, understand that their world IS coming to an end, and that in the West, we have already transcended and are quickly growing beyond the Age of Christianity. I'm an optimist, though. Your mileage may vary. |

02 Apr 05 - 10:58 AM (#1450037) Subject: RE: BS: Pope watch From: GUEST Do you suppose the pomp and circumstance will rival Diana's? I mean, he ain't dead yet. They have to bury him I think it's like 4-6 days after death. Then the cardinals gotta do the deliberating thing, which can take like another 10 days (I know I'm rough guesstimating the timelines). So once the dude departs (if they let him, that is), it's another 2-3 weeks of perpetually breaking pope news on the 24/7 news cycle. That pretty much covers the lead up to British elections, no? Don't look at that man behind the curtain... |
