Hello there everybody!!

My name's Emma or JeZeBeL.

I've been playing the bodhrán for 7 years now and have developed my playing a lot over that time. I lvoe playing and have a really good sense of rhythm. Basically I just love playing and want to get out and play gigs now.

I live near Selby in North Yorkshire but I'm willing to travel as far south as Nottingham, West as Manchester and North as Newcastle. So anywhere in that area within those places.

So if anyone knows of a group who is looking for a bodhráan player please contact me through a pm here, on this thread, or at my email which is: jellybaby_35_13@hotmail.co.uk

Cheers

Jez x

I'm not sure that two bodhran players constitute a band......I have a feeling JeZeBel may be looking for some melodic instruments too..

At LEAST an eight piece band required to drown out most Bodhran players - Makes Gigs not very viable financially , so erhaps not a good scheme !

Joking aside , Best of luck , as good Bodhran players are not easy to find !!

When two women are involved the rhythm method is unnecessary.

I can hear the drooling. Of course, being a Hranner myself, I'll take up from Leadfingers...

When I first read the title, I thought it said band requires Bodhran player. I thought, now there's a first.

Next!

I heard two guys in the pub in Towersey years ago do a 'duelling bodhran' thing...it was absolutley brilliant...

It is possible to do a duelling bodhran thingy, I've done it before on stage and it's good fun.

Honest, I really am a proper bodhran player....I can play tunes on it and everything.

lol.

Back in the Bad Old Days when I was a member of a Cheilidh band we used to feature a sort of 'Duelling Spoons' with two members of the band doing afeatured spoons 'solo' which culminated inthem coming back to the band playing the spoons around each other ! Excellent Showmanship , and always well received !!
No reason why two decent bodhran players shouldnt do a similar thing !!

Have a listen to some of The Corries' stuff - some bodhran duets there. Seem to be fewer bodhran bashers about, but more players. (I'm the best one at any session - so long as everyone else has left theirs at home...)

JeZeBel---good---you can "play tunes" on your Bodhran. That does indicate that you can handle "nuance" where required. But let NOBODY tell you that they can play a bodhran tone-perfect alongside a well-tuned fiddle or guitar and be true to every note. That's what I'd call the "impossible dream." Or the improbable miracle. You can tune to a key. After that it's your personal ability which makes you good, bad or middling.
That said, I'd guess that you are worthy of at least one try-out with a bodhran-shy group. They might be happy with what they hear.
G-LUCK!

Boab, I totally agree. I cannot get the tunes not perfect because it would be impossible, but if you listen in the middle of a celidh or a gig when I get a solo, you can definately hear the tune on the bodhran. It is possible to get actual notes out of a bodhran.

Thank you for the encouragement though boab.

Lynne....Are you coming to the yorkshire gathering? Because we could have a laugh with our bodhran's there?
