This is the second festival and I had extremely good reports from 2004. I'm thinking of taking one of the goddettes (female god-children) and camping. I think she'd really enjoy it...

Will this event happen this year?

I haven't had any dates yet, but I should think so. There is also a Fiddle Festival/Workshop/Competiton in Pembrokeshire over the August Bank Holiday.

And - although it isn't quite ready for announcing - there will also be a big residential event (trad song and instrumental) from 30 October to 2 November 2008. I'll put those details up when they're a bit more developed.

The new copy has just been sent to the webmaster but here's a sneak preview just sent to me by Cass:

Snowdon Fiddle Festival, June 14, 2008

Welcome to the fifth year of the Snowdon Fiddle Festival. The festival started as an offshoot of the local fiddle club Clwb Ffidil yr Wyddfa, with the aim of raising the profile of traditional fiddle playing in the area, giving Welsh fiddle music some well deserved exposure and providing a chance to hear and learn from the foremost exponents of fiddle playing from further afield.

Set in the tiny picturesque village of Nant Peris, at the foot of Snowdon, the festival has become known for its warm and friendly atmosphere. Festivities start on the Friday night with an open session in the cosy back room of the Vaynol Arms. During the day on Saturday there are workshops for fiddle and other instruments including a chance to try out the crwth (a medieval bowed lyre), clog dancing sessions and events for children including storytelling, climbing and puppet shows. Following the fun we had last year, there will be an open-mike concert in the pub at lunchtime, followed by an all-afternoon session to which all are welcome. The evening concert takes place in the beautiful atmospheric setting of the medieval church of St Peris, conveniently situated next to the pub for the session afterwards!

Artists who have played here include John Dipper, Maria Jonsson and Ian Carr, KilBride, Siân Phillips, Christine and Jo Cooper, SILD and the New Rope String Band, as well as numerous local fiddlers.

This year we step up the pace with Roots and Galoots from Pembrokeshire, who play lively Bluegrass music with close-harmony singing. We have a rare opportunity to hear a solo set from Stephen Rees, one of Wales's best known fiddlers and a member of Crasdant and Ar Log. As is now traditional there will also be a short set from the organisers Cass Meurig, Idris Morris Jones and Nial Cain and contributions from Clwb Ffidil yr Wyddfa. Don't miss it!

so now we know!
