18 Apr 05 - 10:37 PM (#1464901) Subject: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: Max I'm thinking about starting up Mudcat Radio again. What do you all think? I've been working very hard on my music and have joined up with just about all the talent this town has to offer. We're gigging pretty regular, making some bucks and having a whole lot of fun. What I am doing locally, I'd like to do globally, just like the old days. I run an open mic here in West Chester, that I'm thinking about giving up. I thought to fill the void, a live broadcast online would be a lot of fun. I'm wondering, that all this time past, whether there would be any interest in a broadcast and whether Wednesday's 8pm EST would work for any of you? What do you think? Oh, and here is an example of what came out of the Mudcat Studio last week. |

Not only would I listen in, I just might hop in the car some Wednesday and drive to West Chester. Mudcat radio was always big fun in the past. Have you picked out a venue, Max? dw Man, I would love to see the "Making of Samson & Delilah" video - sounds like it was a fun time. |

18 Apr 05 - 11:48 PM (#1464958) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: open mike oh goody! how would this work? listen only, or sing and play too? I have spent many wonderful hours in the Paltalk room, the mudcat live acoustic jam, but alas, since service pack two i am no longer able to get the sound to work right. huge delay and on & off sound. What sort of sound thingy would you use for this mudcat radio? I guess there used to be something like this... every now and again i see a link to it on the home page...but i fear it is extinct now.. it would be great to revive it! would it be streaming audio? You GO, Max! |

19 Apr 05 - 01:35 AM (#1464999) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: Chris Amos My vote is yes, but being in the UK it would be a bit late to listen live so an on line playback would be good. Chris |
19 Apr 05 - 03:07 AM (#1465039) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: dwditty Mudcat radio ran for a few years (?) on hear. Max set up his place with a PC, mixer, mics, video camera, and broadcast live via real player. A few mudcatters were regulars in the "studio," and many mudcatters stopped by to play for the rest of us. As the broadcast was being aired live, a bunch of us would gather in a chat room, which was monitored by the studio crew so we were all pretty much drawn into the whole thing. In a word, it was great! Hope it happens again, Max. |
19 Apr 05 - 03:52 AM (#1465051) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: nutty Can't promise to listen (bit late here in the UK) but would love to have it archived - as in the past - so I could listen at leisure. |
19 Apr 05 - 06:47 AM (#1465135) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: Jeri Max, Mudcat Radio was one thing that held folks together, re-affirmed the feeling of community and our love of music, and put the irritants into perspective as tiny little specks, far, far away. Yeah. Radio good, time good, archived shows good. |

19 Apr 05 - 11:42 AM (#1465397) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: open mike i vote for it to be two-way, like paltalk. so those of us not it west chester or east chester can add out 2 cents worth...i think some chat systems can be used this way...yahoo or msn. I missed it the first time around. We were lucky to have Max visit the Paltalk group, and it looks like Francy has got that going again. One of the regular room hosts there told us about another web system with sound: Indline but i do not think it has taken off and thrived like he thought it might. Let us know if and when you do this. I am interested in any web streaming info. On dial-up you do not have as many options, here is one place that some Paltalk people tried....http://www.indline.com/ good luck and let us know what you come up with!@ i will definatley tune in and give you a listen --lend you my ear, as long as you promise to give it back!@ |

19 Apr 05 - 01:57 PM (#1465518) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: Burke I always enjoyed watching the show. Bert & MaryMac (whatever happened to her?) were the local regulars. I never did master the multi-tasking needed to do the chat part as well. I love to have it come back. Do you have enough bandwidth for the sound feeds? |
19 Apr 05 - 02:34 PM (#1465553) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: chris nightbird childs Great idea! This way we all get a chance to hear what everyone's up to. And I too missed it the first time... - Chris |
19 Apr 05 - 02:35 PM (#1465556) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: Bill D openmike...it would never work if the 'audience' was part of the show, except as kibitzers on ICQ. Just too many folks trying to get their 2¢ in...(I tried a couple of times to get in the Paltalk list, but gave up when I saw 3-4 folks each trying to do every 3rd song) What was nice on the show was that Max would take a few phone calls from the audience and could momitor the ICQ chat so he knew who was watching and make comments. Oh, I DO miss trading silliness with Jeri in 47 assorted fonts.... |
19 Apr 05 - 03:06 PM (#1465593) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: open mike oh oh ICQ?? that caused severe crash when i tried it.. is that the system that was used before? I am interested in trying to listen however the system will work. The paltalk has what i thought was a quite organized and polite way of having potential players raise their hand and stand in line. everyone who wants one gets a turn. some room hosts go by the banner above the window and names are typed there in order of appearing. |
19 Apr 05 - 03:10 PM (#1465597) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: Clinton Hammond Mudcat radio... good idea... well past time eh.... Two way? I think that between streaming audio (Please, not Real Audio though... Real Player sucks) and Mudchat, that's more than two-way enough |

19 Apr 05 - 04:38 PM (#1465703) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: Bill D openmike...ICQ 'caused' a crash? Causation is tricky in these cases... hard to really pin blame. (and yep, there was/is an 'organized' system in the room, though I'm not sure about polite.....I remember WAY back in HearMe days, before Paltalk, when the moderator made an effort to invite participation from shy types. The few times (3?) I tried PalTalk, it was sorta every man for himself, and devil take the hindmost. If that was only my skewed perception, I apologize. Clinton, surely you of all people oughta know you don't actually have to use RealPlayer! RealAlternative or JetAudio will do just as well. oh, yes, Noreen, we were a gaudy lot! |
19 Apr 05 - 05:20 PM (#1465752) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: Roger in Baltimore Yes, Max, if you can archive it. I'm not on-line at home, but I could listen the next day at work. I always regretted not showing up in West Chester for one of these deals. Maybe I could overcome my regret. Roger in Baltimore |

19 Apr 05 - 08:48 PM (#1465955) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: Max MaryMac met a man who now keeps her happy full time. I talk to her now and again. She seems quite happy and well. I'm not sure about the technology yet, I'm still in the very early stages of thinking of this. I don't have enough bandwidth to host the broadcast, but many services are available for me to feed one server live and all you can feed off that. I'm pretty sure that I'll have to find one of those services willing to donate their technology for this good cause. I'm optimistic. I really liked the regularity of it back when. It seemed to keep us up do date and involved on a regular basis. Oh, and I'm looking for a volunteer to keep "What's On" up to date. Anyone interested? I like the idea of a moderated interactiveness. We'll see if I can pull that off. Probably no video this time, just audio. I'd like to avoid Real Audio as well. We'll see. Thanks for all the kind words, I'll see if I can get the old shows back online. Max |

20 Apr 05 - 09:41 AM (#1466269) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: JedMarum Do both, Max - the open mic AND the MC radio. Do the radio show from the poen mic - or invite a few of the open mic folks to your 'studio' Or have calls in from Mudcatter open mics .... anything along those lines. Your old show format was fine ... wide open and eclectic. Archived shows would probably put a strain on resources ... lots of storage ... maybe keep select shows, or edited parts of shows - plus the previous week's show on-line - roll the others off ... anyway - it would be good to see MC radio again! |
20 Apr 05 - 11:45 AM (#1466367) Subject: RE: Mudcat Radio Making a Comeback? From: GUEST,PoppaGator It took me a while to get the message that Mudcat Radio in the past had a video as well as an audio component ~ and then soon learned that video might not be feasible this time around. Oh well ~ either way, it's certainly worth reinstating. Is it too late to add my comments about the "Sampson" sound clip? I read that misanthropic criticism ("lose the girl singer," etc.) before I listened to the song, so then I had to hear what it sounded like. To my ear, the lead guitar and vocal (presumably one and the same person ~ Max?) was damn near perfect and well-qualified to "lead" the group effort. The harmonies and the rest of the gang were inconsistent, excellent here and there, groping around for the right notes in other spots, but enthusiastic and spirited throughout. Lots of fun, in other words. Sounded like the kind of jam I would really love to join. If it were perfectly polished, it would be intimidating, but the way it is, I can feel that (A) I could add something, maybe a riff or a harmony better than anyone has come up with yet, while on the other hand (B) if I were to screw up by reaching a bit too far, it wouldn't be the end of the world; I'd be just a part of the group, just like everyone else. |
