From: Fiona Leadfingers, I would have agreed with you at one time but having seen the Peatbogs indoors a couple of times I'd disagree now. I've seen them at the DeMontford Hall & the Komedia in Brighton (more or less a cellar) and they sounded great. Fiona |

I have set I want to get rid of - I can't manage the lung power! And yes they are marvelous when heard from a hillside at a distance the skirl of the pipes indoors is too too much! thinking about it hence the small pipes! I think pipes would get a beter press if folk heard them in teh correct setting. Andy And if you know anyone interested in a set of Indian made pipes but upgraded to a goretex bag with syntetic reeds pm me pleas please please. |

The pipes were intended for OUTDOOR use , particularly in BATTLE . Pipes in a band mean that all the other instruments HAVE to be amplified , simply for sound balance . The result in any thing but a large hall is DEAFENING !!!! The last time I let myself be inveigled into an indoor event was Tannahill Weavers in a building with a quite low ceiling ! The music was very well played , but it was impossible to have any kind of a conversation , even in the seperate bar it was too loud . And dont forget , I am an ex piper ! Earls Court is OK for Pipe bands , but its a bit big for a Folk Club ! |

From: Fiona I do understand what you mean Leadfingers (and I'm remembering you're a piper too)and yes, the Peatbog Faeries are loud and amplified, and the lad (can't remember his name) plays Highland pipes, but it sounds wonderful. I wouldn't say you could have had a conversation over the top of them, but that wasn't the intention. They do dance music really, they're from Skye and they have pipes (Highland) & whistles, fiddles, guitar, bass, keyboards & drums. I don't dance All night long anymore, but I'm happy enough listening to them too. And I'm a grown woman, no some wee lassie! They're not to everyones taste, but they're good lads and I enjoy their music. The pipes are at their finest outside, I won't disagree with you there but you don't need to be battling for them to raise your spirits do you? |

From: LadyJean Every October, my church has Scottish Reformation Sunday, with a bagpipe band playing at the service. It isn't too loud. I could wish the band would tune up before they played. Indeed I have put it into the basket as a prayer request. But they aren't too loud. Now, one year the man in the pew behind me was leaning up against one side, not concsious, and I went and alerted security, because I was fairly sure he wasn't asleep. No I don't know what was the matter with him. The really great thing about highland pipes is that they are frequently played by attractive men in kilts! Hubba hubba! |
