There is actually a Purgatory in Minnesota. Story is that the area was very swampy, and difficult to cross and when settlers moved through the area and were asked where the came from, they said that the went through Purgatory. It's near Eden Prairie, Minnesota, wher one of my Uncle's lived. That cracked me up too. Only a Midwesterner would picture the Garden of Eden on a prairie.

It's in your mind. Just to the left of guilt and in front of doubt.

Pittsburgh is a fine city, Azizzi. Purgatory is located in the Mellon Bank Center, in the city's downtown, in a section devoted to something called retail lockbox.
In a chilly room, done in unrelieved gray, temps sit, and look at checks and look at forms, then they look at checks, then they look at forms.
I know because I worked there once. Fortunately not for long.
I know it was purgatory because I got out.

well theres this folk club in Birmingham where the audience try to sing the Carthy/Swarbrick version of Byker Hill....all those weird rhythms...sounds a bit like the crowd at Cardiff arms park attempting stravinsky's Rites of spring.

In Daylia' picture and in Bill D's there is someone who looks kinda saintly standing there overseeing the misery.

Who do you reckon he might be?

In both pictures the holier-than-thou guy seems to have an offsider with a funny hat on.

Who might he be too?

The holier than thou guy is the boss, a mid-level manager who wants to get out of there soon and into something where he can really show his tuff to senior management. The guy with the funny hat is his son-in-law, a nepotistic hire with less brains than a stagbeetle.

Maybe, but mg is mary garvey, not martin gibson...

I think Purgatory is probably about halfway from Kalamazoo to Ypsilanti.

purgatory is where jpk lives and learned to spell.

If it's not, it's either Syria or Indiana.

Interesting how the only way some can be entertained is to mention my name in a thread.

PURGATORY : ITS LOGISTICS

I think the someone who looks kinda saintly could be an angel who is helping out the poor souls.

Interesting to see by looking through links from Google, that some believe that hell, purgatory and heaven could have physical existence and locations...

1. My annotated copy of Dante's Divine Comedy has a map of
Purgatory, but I can't find it. Besides, there don't seem to be
   and roads going there.

2. In Bill D's picture the extra guys are Dante and Virgil.

If Purgatory is where you wait until it is decided whether you go to heaven or to hell, from those pictures it appears they're getting a lot of work out of you in the meantime...

For me, any establishment where I am forced to listen to recent popular music is a form of purgatory. St Peter's office is keeping track of the credits to my account.

The Irish again:
During his travels Ramon de Perelhos visited an Irish place of pilgrimage, Purgatorium St. Patricii (st. Patricks Purgatory), where one could go down to the purgatory (1397). Source in German

More images of Dante Alighieri's travels through hell, purgatory (P. Vergilius Maro guiding), and paradise (with Beatrice) in La Divina Commedia In Italian.

Happy voyage

Other ways to the underworld:
Greece: Cape Tainaron (Sparta), Alkyonic Lake of Lerna (Danger: Hydra!)
And at the Olympian Oracle they say there is a link, too.
Italy: or at the "birdless" Lake Avern (Cumae)
