I just received a set of Utah's CDs that he calls his songbook. It's a collection of 60 of his best songs, and I'm here to tell you it is a treasure! It's available from NO GUFF RECORDS, PO box 1235, Nevada City CA. 95959.

It seems like I recall someone mentioned this set a while back, but I couldn't find it in the forum's old posts.

I jsut got my copy in the mail Kendall. Haven't had a chance to listen yet, but it looks gorgeous! Of course, it doesn't hurt that both of us are on there.

"...both of us are on there."    Tell me more -- is this a collection of other folks singing Utah's songs, or Utah himself?

I can't believe Mr. Utah didn't include his very best song, "Yuri Gagarin" from his first album. It is the best song ever written in America in tribute to a Soviet hero.

I thought it might just contain the songs from his original Starlight on the Rails Songbook, but there are many more songs on the CD set. You can get the CD set for $38.98 + $4.00 S+H from http://www.utahphillips.com. We Californians have to pay a 7.375% surcharge to support Arnold and Maria and their starving children, who no longer receive many of the state-provided benefits California kids once enjoyed.

It's a mixture of renditions by Rosealie Sorrels, Jody Stecher and Kate Breslin, Mark Ross, me and, of course, Utah himself.

Are these newly recorded songs or a compilation of prior recordings?

Does it have the Stecher and Brislin "Rock Salt and Nails?" Jody's guitar intro to his version of that is my candidate for the all time best example of making music with the spaces between the notes....

Peter.

The version of ROCK SALT AND NAILS is the one by Rosalie Sorrels. I've been listening to this collection the last couple of days, it's wonderful.
