On it is a wonderful song called The Wind which was not on the album titled The Wind... and I can't find the lyrics anywhere on the Internet. Why am I asking a folk/blues forum? Well, to my mind, any song that mentions a bobolink is by definition a folk song. Which is the subject of another thread, but meanwhile, I'd like to know what the words to this haunting melody are. We can also talk about other songs on the record... very lovely indeed. |

06 May 05 - 04:28 AM (#1479219) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: The Wind (Enjoy Every Sandwich) From: Dave'sWife Yes, it's not 'The wind' but 'Hasten Down The Wind' and it was covered by Linda Ronstadt on her 1970s album of the same name. Her version is worth seeking out. That whole album is one of her strongest. Hasten Down The Wind is probably one of Warren Zevons most memorable songs. It captures that fragile moment when a relationship is on its last legs and both parties are waffling back and forth over moving on. It's a painful moment that doesn't last very long, but one that sticks with you. When you find yourself arriving at such a moment again, after having lived through it once before, you get this horrible sinking feeling, knowing there's only one way for things to go. One of the all-time great 'break-up' songs. I once left a cassette recording of that song on the kitchen table of a house I was sharing with someone. I put it there while he was out of town and right after I moved all my crap out of the place. It seemed to say it all. It beats a Dear John letter I suppose. |

The Wind starts off like this here: The wind is laughing through the trees Laughing with me, not at me Around here when the wind blows hard You start forgetting who you are (woooooooooooooo, ooooooooooooooooooh) Round here when it rains in pours Even the bobolink goes indoors ... |
06 May 05 - 09:09 AM (#1479336) Subject: Lyr/Chords Add: THE WIND (Warren Zevon) From: GUEST,robomatic What a great writer, voice, and performer. I saw him perform solo in Boston in the 80s, maybe even acoustic, my memory is dim. But he was one of the greats, he made twisted sound good, and he could do a good 'angry' song when he wanted. Apparently Warren Zevon did not personally record this song: From WarrenZevon.com: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Wind Intro) Am G C / Dm C G Am Verse 1 [Am]The wind is laughing [G] through the [C] trees... [Am] Laughing with me,[G] Not at [Am] me [ Dm C G Am] [Dm]Round here when the [C] wind blows [Bb] hard..... [Am] You start forgetting [G] who you [Am] are... (Dm C G Am] Note: All 5 verses are the same chords) Verse 2 Round here when it rains it pours Even the bobolink goes indoors You'll be forgotten but you wont forget.... Come along with me, you'll just get wet Verse 3 Arizona's so hot and dry.... Dreamt up rivers and mountains rise... The old cars left to rest and rust.... Come along with me,says the dust Verse 4 Out here on a stormy night Amidst the clouds and crackling light Times a foe and times a friend Come along with me, says the wind Verse 5 Arizona's filled with ghosts San Joaquin, my gracious host Through the rain the wind and dust To the arms of Je-Sus END |

He and Warren Zevon were friends and neighbors. Zevon may have written it for him. In any case, after hearing the song, I can't imagine anyone else doing it. |
