Are there any folk clubs, folk session etc in the Orlando area? My husband, Andy, concertina player and singer, is visiting for a week, starting on Thursday (says he's going to a conference...)AND not taking me with him!
Any information anyone?

This Friday night is Orlando's longest running open-mic night. There are likely to be two long-time Mudcatters there - me and Abby Sale.

It's located at the First Unitarian Church of Orlando, 1901 E. Robinson St., Orlando, 32803. Starts at 8pm and goes past 11pm. This week will be our 11th Anniversary.

If he's going to be down near the convention center - it's a quick drive up Interstate 4 in downtown Orlando. Just get off at the Robinson Street exit, turn right onto Robinson and head straight for about a mile. The church is on the left side.

Also if he shows up - tell them to ask for me - Tom Cook. I'll buy him a cold beer or a soda. We would love to have some concertina music. We have a fairly ecclectic mix.

Try Central Florida Folk as well - the home for Central Florida Folk organization. You'll find nearly everything you need there.

Thank you! He is packing his concertina in his hand luggage - not so sure about the cold beer though - not what we're used to..
Wish I were coming too

Hi there,

Seems as if he had a great time Friday night at the Blackcat. Definately it was a good night for the Blackcat, being both our 11th anniversary and Friday the 13th.

You have a pretty great husband. I and others really enjoyed talking with him and we enjoyed his performance. His was the first concertina to grace our stage, and he got us singing the chorus of a couple songs.

I hope he (and you) can make it back here again. You have a place to stay. I told him that we'd even help find places for his band to have gigs if they wish.

He mentioned a couple performers I might want to check out, but of course I've forgotten their names. One was someone who had recently recorded a Nelson tribute album, and the other, I think, was a local group in your area (yeah that narrows it down...). If you can help out with those names, I'd appreciate it.

Take care,

Tom

Barb'ry,

I'm saddened you never got my e-mail. I replied to you immediately with the ENTIRE list of Orlando happenings. Also, the same offer as Blackcatter - to phone and meet up at the Black Cat. Still, it's a Good Thing Tom posted as well.

I saw him there but had no idea he was yer husband.

There's another very appropriate do tonight, Sunday. Have him phone me.

Abby

I'm sorry Abby - I thought that you had met each other at Black Cat. There you two sat 10 feet from each other all evening.
