After living 32anahaf yrs. in the same house, we have completed a deal and will be moving "to the country" about 21-22 miles away from where we are now. I was born in Austin. It will feel peculiar to vote somewhere else.
A manufactured home on one whole acre of land, east of Austin. The difference is: Austin and west of it is a thin layer of dust&gravel on top of layers and layers of limestone, and we've only had a city lot. East of us is 1 and 2 feet of D*I*R*T* -- garden galore. Hubby, as a child, cared for his grandmother's chicken yard. He's already located a source of the breed of hens he wants to have! I have pointed out he's the experienced expert and will be in charge of livestock. We're planning roses, pecan trees, figs, herbs&veggies, maybe a few peaches.
It's startin' to look like a bit of work. Are we having fun yet? Tw

Better check out the water rates before you start planting--xeriscape is a good idea in your area.

You'll be thoroughly entertained by all of the landscaping you envision, and you'll get there one blister at a time. Have fun!

The day we got the keys we managed a small, impromptu get-together -- daughter+son-in-law, daughter-in-law, 3 of my (now 5) favorite grandkids, long-time pal from church who was our realtor. The place had looked quite large. Seemed to shrink with those 3 kids running all over. Oh, and a bottle of champagne.

This is the place to become very familiar with--it will offer you tons of information on how to make and keep that yard healthy and to stay healthy while you're working on it: http://www.dirtdoctor.com is the web site for Howard Garrett's Dirt Doctor organic gardening and landscaping (and pets and health and such) site. First things first--have you picked the place for your compost pile(s)?
