12 May 05 - 03:02 PM (#1483515) Subject: Lyr Add: FAT GAL (Merle Travis) From: GUEST,JTT That's why I love that fat gal o' mine. FAT GAL (Merle Travis) She keeps me warm in the Winter, Chilly in the Summertime; That's what I like about that fat gal of mine! And when I see my landlord, There's so much of her to hide behind; You wouldn't pay rent if your time was spent like mine! Now she's so sweet with the softest heart; She's pretty soft around other parts, And at night when I lay me down, I don't need a piller when she's around. Warm in the Winter, Shady in the Summertime; That's what I like about that fat gal of mine! Now when she's tickled, So much of her has the biggest time; I tell all my jokes to that fat gal of mine. She's never fickle; You better put your name on the dotted line, First time you meet with with a big fat gal like mine! This hard-time talk don't trouble me; I keep as happy as a honeybee; If things get rough and times get hard, I'll render my gal and sell the lard. Warm in the Winter, Shady in the Summertime; That's what I like about that fat gal of mine! Now she's my shelter in the time of storm; I helter-skelter right under her arm. She's a beauty if you look at her face, And you shouldn't be a-lookin' any other place! http://www.dimensionsmagazine.com/dimtext/kjn/lyrics/mtravis.htm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiFrVIJj_PI |

There's a verse about having to keep a piece of chalk when he starts hugging her; he marks how far he reached and moves to the mark and starts over -- and once he met a guy doing the same thing coming around from the other side!! Fun song. Tw |

Interesting, considering some radio stations wouldn't play one of his other songs because it had the word 'divorce' in it. This is the lyrics he uses on the original recording. FAT GAL (Merle Travis) She keeps me warm in the winter Shady in the summertime That's what I like about that fat gal of mine And when I see my landlord There's so much of her to hide behind You wouldn't pay rent if your time was spent like mine Now she's so sweet with the softest heart She's pretty soft around other parts So at night when I lay me down I don't need a pillow when she's around Warm in the winter Shady in the summertime That's what I like about that fat gal of mine Now when she's tickled So much of her has the biggest time I tell all my jokes to that fat gal of mine She's never fickle You better put your name on the dotted line First time you meet with with a big fat gal like mine She’s my shelter in a time of storm I helter skelter right under her arm She’s a beauty if you look at her face And you shouldn’t be lookin’ any other place Warm in the winter Shady in the summertime That's what I like about that fat gal of mine She’s a bargain, For the same old price look at all I get Well I got a lot when I got that gal of mine And when I’m out a-workin’ She sits at home on her divanette That’s that old fat gal of mine This hard-time talk don't trouble me I keep as happy as a honeybee If things get rough and times get hard I'll render my gal and sell the lard Warm in the winter Shady in the summertime That's what I like about that fat gal of mine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiFrVIJj_PI |

09 Dec 23 - 03:43 AM (#4193226) Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Fat Gal (Merle Travis) From: GUEST (Merle Travis was also a noted songwriter, particularly imo his songs about coal mining which were based on close experience. Why are there so many fat people in the west, it must be die and lack of exercise, it is causing strain on health services. I would make them do one hours daily exercise, and not allow them to eat during daylight hours. |

Big splash when Tennessee Ernie Ford had a big hit with “Sixteen Tons” from his classic 1963 Songs of the Coal Mines record. Fundamental fingerpick guitarist. |
