Does anyone know what the song is that is played on an autoharp in the movie? It's a folk type song played and sung only briefly.

Thanks.

I remember that, it was just long enough to identify it as an autoharp and that was it... if we get the DVD out soon, I'll see what I can do towards identifying it... Limpit has been badgering me for it since the film was out!

It's at www.contemplator.com/scotland/
This is also known as Child Ballad #210 (Bonnie James Campbell)
Also see Francis J. Child Ballads.
No chords with it. If you find chords could you post them? I'll do the same if I find them.

Sorry, but the result after the message is submitted is that the chords aren't placed in their proper place. First line, C7 is on Highland, F on laigh, C on Tay; second line, G7 is on day; third line, C7 is on bridled, F on gallant, C on see; fourth line, G7 is on never. R

Thanks for the chords. I was beginning to feel like an idiot not being able to get it correct. Thanks

Ah - that'll be Billy Connolly, who started out in the entertainment biz as a folkie.

In which case it could well be him playing it (although his usual instrument is the banjo....)

He does seem awfully fond of the tune. BTW has anyone heard him play Get it On by T.Rex on banjo?

Roberto,

Thanks for this--I've found several different versions of the lyric, but I like the snippet you posted best. Can you tell me where to find it?

Thanks,

mn

Hi, mn -
I crosslinked all our threads on Bonnie George Campbell (links are at the top of this page), so you can find several versions by looking at the crosslinks.

Anybody know where this song appears in the film - how many minutes from the beginning, or what scene number?

LtS - the autoharp's been Connolly's second instrument since the Humblebums.
