I was disappointed to see that the UK entry given a handful of votes. "Nul points" would have been far more appropriate. And, as happens surprisingly often, the song that came second was actually quite good. Malta's entry, that was; and it was good seeing the traditionally built lady who wrote it singing it. (You can have a squint at and a listen to all the songs if you click on through from here. "All" rather assumes you're a glutton for puniushment - My God, there were some dreadful ones though, some of them almost as bad as the UK entry. But that's where the fun lies. And there are always a few... |

Sure, some of them related to the injustices of a century or so back, but nonetheless... Thanks for the link, McGrath: we played quite a few of my families requests - they'd watched the show - and one or two were okay. Ish. None to match that spine-tinglingly marvellous song from Bosnia Herzogovinia a couple of years back. That was suitably rootsey, but I'm afraid their entry this year seemed to have gone for the EuroVisionFormulaCumParody angle. |

I wonder if Eurovision would survive if France, Germany, Spain and the UK withdrew in a huff after coming in the last four positions? If everyone hates us (and the septics) so much, why were so many songs sung in English. Bunch of hypocrites if you ask me. They had more character. Missed the FA Cup - didn't even know it was on until someone told me on Saturday, and then got everyone confused when I thought it was in London. At the AGM for the Dandy Owners Club, I was. And if you don't know what a Dandy is (there are at least two other Catters who have them), click here and follow Pictures, Rallies 2004, Pembridge and you'll see mine nearest the water. Came back to find the voting finishing and Greece tops. Listened to the song - crap! Very gratified that for yet one more year I find the winning song to be rubbish; it confirms my good taste in music for me. Dunc, I wonder where the third "first" will come from...Greece had one in sports, one in arts (using the word very loosely); politics next perhaps? Greece as the peacemaker in the Middle East? Or in science - the first country to square the circle or abolish world hunger? |

And it provides a useful, annual booster shot against many, many forms of aweful music. Unfortunatly, I missed it being at our summer dance. Plus, being in a University based group, we have members from a fair number of the counties involved, and a few innocents, for want of a better word. People who've come to study from the US, Oz, etc and have never been exposed to Eurovision before, and all of a sudden, a seemingly normal (ok, a group of folk dancers) people subject themselves to that of their own free will, and with only alcohol as an anesthetic.
