I am just planning my three month tour around Australia. Any folk events/clubs I shouldn't miss?

Merry

hi Merry bee
For info on folk events in NSW, try the NSW Folk Fed website, at jam.org.au

Almost Acoustic is a folk venue in Rozelle run buy the Folk Federation of NSW. It features overseas, interstate and local artists. Folk nights at Almost Acoustic are usually the second Saturday of the month, but there are variations to fit in with touring artists. You can find out more about Almost Acoustic at    http://freewebs.com/almostacoustic

The Loaded Dog is another acoustic venue - showcasing the best acoustic music has to offer, from guitar to hurdy-gurdy, solo voice to community choir. More information about the Loaded Dog can be found at: www.freewebs.com/loadeddog

This link will take you to a site which has a poster of folk events all over Australia:

7thdimension.com.au/festival

the poster can be purchased through the site.

The Australian Folk Alliance

folkalliance.org.au/FAA_SiteMap.htm

If you look at this site under "festivals" you will find 85 festivals from around Australia listed.

Another good source of information is the Folk Australia website, to be found at:

folk.mountaintracks.com.au/Folk_Australia
This site also has information about month by month at festivals around Australia, and other features including a group chat room, calendar, file server, and more....

Merry-

You can have a whole lot of fun following up folk club leads from Mudcatters in Australia. We certainly did in our two recent trips. We also did some tourist things as well.

You might review our Oz Journal on our personal website, which is edited from a Mudcat thread of similar name: Australia Trip 2003

Note, you may have to cycle back to our home page to access this journal.

Charley Noble

And us if you find yourself in Victoria, Merry Bee
Nobody forgets Queensland, Foolestroupe. In the U.S. all they talked about to us was crocodiles. Cheers, Joy

Merry-

Thanks for the thanks!

I'm sure when you formulate more definite plans you will find Mudcat a useful resource for locating friendly contacts in Oz. We certainly were quite pleased with the advice and hospitality. We wish we were going back there this year but maybe we'll be able to do that in 2006.

Hi MerryBee. If you are in Sydney at any stage, I know Charlie would recommend a John and Jenny backyard barbeque in Earlwood. If it's windy, we might even put you to work hauling on the mainbraces ;-)

Otherwise, a number of us here are heavily involved in the Sydney folk scene. Sandra runs The Loaded Dog folk club, and I run North By Northwest Folk club.

Let us know your plans when you know them, and we guarantee to keep you busy. Just ask Charlie!

Jenny

If you want to be 'Bound for Botany Bay', you could try stealing a loaf of bread...
