01 Jun 05 - 05:03 PM (#1497612) Subject: RE: BS: Hull Binge Drinking Club From: gnu Yup, we had such a ban on "Happy Hour" here a while back. The real reason was that the well-to-do pub owners weren't making any money with the downturn in the economy and it was just a scheme to keep prices up. Soooo, the competition for business turned to "Ladies Nights" and such and the pubs who could afford to sell chicken wings cheap and such got the business. The small pubs, and, worse, neighbourhood pubs, which allowed people to walk to and from, rather than drive, got screwed. The government and the pub owners don't give a crap about the health of drinkers or about drunk drivers or they wouldn't be in the business in the first place. It's just a scheme for the "big" pubs to get rid of some competition. Sneaky, greedy bastards! |

02 Jun 05 - 09:30 AM (#1498153) Subject: RE: BS: Hull Binge Drinking Club From: Roger the Skiffler I'd read all this stuff in the press about teenage binge drinking. Knowing that the younger element frequent my local club (at weekends, not midweek "grab a granny" nights when I go, naturally), I asked the barman, who I expected to know about these things, for a glass of binge, not knowing whether it comes with a cherry or an umbrella . He just shook his head and poured me a pint of ale as usual. It must be a youth thing. RtS (I don't have a drink problem. I drink, I fall down, no problem) |

The other nine were very upset, regardless of the explanation that it was a sudden event, which happened without sufficient time to issue an appropriate warning. However, when pondering the poser in my post above, such an arguement would be invalid. There it is, fish or bait hook? |

02 Jun 05 - 04:18 PM (#1498486) Subject: RE: BS: Hull Binge Drinking Club From: gnu Oh come on now!? I didn't kill this thread by being any more gross than those before me. Okay then. If the government is so concerned about the low prices during 'Happy Hour', why don't they raise the prices at the beer store to match the regular prices at he pub? Surely, those thrifty drinkers have a few at home before they go to the pub to socialize and get soaked with higher prices? |

03 Jun 05 - 11:32 AM (#1499226) Subject: RE: BS: Hull Binge Drinking Club From: GUEST,Penelope Rutledge Wellington-Jones It is this sort of thing which constantly reminds me how fortunate I was to be born in a good family, a family which practiced sobriety and self-control and set an example for its children. My heart goes out to those poor souls who are drawn into a life of license and drunken folly, destroying themselves and those whom they love dearly. It is utterly tragic. My dear husband, Winston, has some tendency to rely overmuch on alcohol, and I lecture him daily on the evils of drink, so as to steer him in the right direction. Still, he vanishes off to his silly club or to the Vicar's Inn (which we are now owners of), and sits there with his "mates" into the wee hours, consuming FAR too much strong drink. I am going to keep at him until I get this behaviour of his entirely under control, because I feel that the survival of our marriage depends on it. Besides which, he must set a proper example for my niece, Veronica. She is approaching the "dangerous" age. |

03 Jun 05 - 02:38 PM (#1499405) Subject: RE: BS: Hull Binge Drinking Club From: GUEST,Penelope Rutledge Wellington-Jones That is just the sort of pitiable response I would expect from a drunken wretch who is probably a defrocked priest as well, and a social pariah. Veronica says I shouldn't bother with this wretched forum, and she is probably right, but I do not intend to turn my back on the suffering while they may yet be saved from their folly. |

Sue for divorce from the drunken lout. It''s the only way he will ever be happy and find the courage to wake sober to another day. You'll still be ugly in the morning. Apologies, there, Winston. |
