A FREE festival with many great performers, and an ambience that makes it all even better. My best to all the FSGW folks who work so hard to put it together. Padre |

When you fly, Jim, do you check your bucket? I don't suppose it would fit in the overhead? :) Looking forward to hearing you again. Ebbie |

What's a little driving time? :-) Gosh, I envy you guys in Alaska too. It seems that you have such a close nit folk community and great, great, musicians. I've never flown with the bucket. I'll have to figure out how to make a traveling version at some point. What we need is for those scientist fellows working on string theory to get their act together and figure out how to get the transporters working. :-) See ya in October too! |

03 Jun 05 - 03:18 PM (#1499458) Subject: RE: 2005 Washington Folk Festival From: Ferrara This Festival has been going on for decades, with a 3 year interval recently whlie the park was refurbished. Glen Echo used to be an amusement park and was purchased by the Park Service after it closed. The stages are still called "Crystal Pool," "Bumper Car Pavilion," etc. (As a kid I went on those rides....) There are a number of artists in residence and classes in the arts take place all year round as well as puppet shows, dances and other events. The Washington Folk Festival not only gets a huge audience, including literally thousands of people who normally don't go to many ethnic and folk activities, but it also can draw from a huge selection of talents. We have a wide variety of ethnic populations who still maintain their traditions of music, dance and storytelling. Plus of course the Folklore Society of Greater Washington and related performers. And you can ride the carousel. |
