03 Jun 05 - 01:29 PM (#1499334) Subject: BS: Osama Virus From: Ebbie Mrr, in another thread, warns us of this new virus. It's real. "Computer users are being warned about new malware that purports to be pictures of a captured Osama Bin Laden. "The emails arrive with a variety of headers such as ?God Bless America? or ?Captured at last!? and contain an attachment with the code. "The message reads: "Turn on your TV. Osama Bin Laden has been captured. While CNN has no pictures at this point of time, the military channel (PPV) released some pictures. I managed to capture a couple of these pictures off my TV. I?ve attached a slideshow containing all the pictures I managed to capture." Once opened, the Trojan, named Psyme, copies itself onto the PC and then sends a message to a website confirming the infection. Millions of copies of the emails have been spammed out since 2 June, according to email management firm Blackspider Technology." More |

03 Jun 05 - 01:56 PM (#1499355) Subject: RE: BS: Osama Virus From: Ebbie Oh dear. Didn't mean to be misleading. My link leads to the warning, not to the virus site. By the way, I PMed Joe Offer and asked him to post this thread above the line. This virus is spreading fast. You'll find Mrr's warning on another thread---- Oh dear again. I thought I read her warning on an existing thread but I see now that she started one called 'God Bless Hoaz'. So we have two threads going on it. 'Hoax' is perhaps not the best title though- it is a REAL virus ( a trojan); the warning is not a hoax. |

04 Jun 05 - 02:15 AM (#1499919) Subject: RE: Tech: Osama Virus From: Joe Offer I'm kind of ambivalent about moving virus warnings above the line, but OK. It's the usual routine - don't EVER open attachments from people you don't know, and don't open unexpected attachments from people you DO know. And don't send attachments unless you really have to. I got the virus in an e-mail today, and deleted it. That's one nice thing about most Web-based mail - you delete the messages you don't want and don't download them at all, so most virus attachments never get to your computer. -Joe Offer- |
