05 Jun 05 - 07:51 PM (#1500787) Subject: Sidmouth International Festival From: GUEST,nikki Here's an interesting quote from an article about Sidmouth in the current June 2005 issue of 'DevonLife' - The Devon County magazine... '...If Sidmouth first made its national mark as the Duke of Kent's nemesis,it is presently gaining worldwide recognition as the home of the International Folk Festival, now in its 51st year. The dates for 2005 are Saturday 30th July to Friday 5th August. Folk singers, musicians and dancers come from all over the world to perform, either in the halls, marquees or street. The financial benefit to the town is immense, and it is usually packed out during this week.....' |

This one has obviously had both eyes and ears closed for a whole year. It's a miracle he/she hasn't been run over.. Even as one of the most vociferous, and positive, supporters of Sidmouth 2005, I think this article is reprehensible, as it gives an impression that is almost certain to mean disappointment to some. Fortunately, most people already know of the differences this year, and hopefully next year will see that kind of article much closer to truth than it is right now. Don T. |

You really would think the Devon county magazine 'Devon Life' would get its facts right. Everyone living in Devon apart from the magazine editor knows the Sidmouth International Festival is sadly not happening this year. There's a few sessions and dance displays plus some concerts in a tent all dressed-up as a 'Folk Week' but the much-loved 'Sidmouth International Festival' it most certainly is not. |
