A new 'old' instrument has recently emerged from the bogs in Scotland.

Anyone heard/seen it?

Heard of it. Seen others. But I've never heard one. Go trumpeters!

The carnyx, played by John Kenny, features on Kathryn Tickell's Ensemble Mystical album a couple of years ago. Saw them live a couple of times interesting line-up and a very good band

Kathryn T- northumbrian pipes, fiddle vocal
Ron Shaw - cello
Julian Sutton - melodoen
Mary McMaster - harp, vocal
John Kenny - trombone, carnyx, alpenhorn, recorder

I've not seen one personally, but did see one on a video.

The sound is much like a didge!

The history of the Carnyx and its recreation is astonishing.

There have been threads here going back to 2000 talking about the Carnyx. (See Lyric Search Box and enter Carnyx)
