BS: Good News Is No News

Funny.

Since our resident pot-stirrer left, I notice the BS section has been far less active, and much of the heavy action is in the thread about his leaving. And heating up more every day.

Makes me think good news is no news. Just like in the newspapers.

Good news:

Just got an advance copy of Art Thieme's unreleased new CD made from live recordings over the years (including a track from a concer we did together.) It is truly magnificent. There are some musicians who are almost impossible to catch on tape. Allan Block is one. Somehow, trying to figure out how to squeeze Art through a wire and out my speakers, with all the warmth and hunor intact seemed like an impossible task. But darned if they haven't done it. The CD is like hearing Art on his best night ever... like a whole golden oldies CD.

Now, ain't that good news?

Got a call from my Mom yesterday. She had just gotten home, after having been in the hospital for three days. They discovered that she has congestive heart failure. She'd been feeling pretty peaked for a long time. They put her on medication and when I talked to her, she said she hadn't felt this good in years.

She's 98.

May still have a few miles left on her tires. When she goes, she will have had a good ride.

Liz, does it include Spotted Dick?

There is Spotted Dick.

There are also Squashed Fly biscuits, over a dozen things to do with chocolate and a glossary.

My best news is that a misunderstanding with my bestest friend (that was upsetting me at the beginning of the week) had been sorted, cleared and I am covered in laurels having been officially labelled 'Not a bad person after all'!!

So I'm a happy bunny again.

Liz: Does the cookbook include the recipe for "Kitty Litter Cake"? I posted it on Mudcat a couple of years ago, but I don't know if there was a thread on which I should have submitted it for the cookbook. It's made of crumbly cake and chocolate Tootsie-Roll "turds", preferably served in a rectangular cake pan with a brand new, never-used-for-the-real-thing metal litter-scooper.

The good news here is that I started a diet last week and have lost eightand-a-half pounds so far! (No cake for me, thanks.)

I think I have all Art Thieme's work including his record. How can I go about getting a copy of this CD? I love his stories and music. Jerry, I don't think you realize what a teaser you put on this thread. I have to have it!! Tsk, I guess I'll have to wait...

Art, if you read this, please let us know when the CD will be available.

Love, Annamill

But let's remeber to stay clear away from it, as it is extremely toxic and dangerous.

Hi, Annamill:

Guess I shouldnta mentioned Art's CD, as I don't believe it is near production yet. Kinda like where I am. I have a master CD now of my last album, Handful of Songs but haven't produced copies for sale yet. I should be getting mine out in a couple of months... Art's may take longer than that, but only he could guess at it. I talked to him on my birthday and thanked him for the copy of the CD and he didn't have a clear idea when it would be produced for sale.

Things move slowly in folk circles. Or is it that they just keep going in circles?

Thanks Jerry. I'll be there when it's finally done. I just want to be sure we'll know when it's available. I love his music.

SharonA, you may have made a breakthrough in the realm of weight loss. Keep inventing dishes that have chocolate turds and similar and see if you don't get to be a millionaire.

Well I must say it all sounds very good in this thread!!
Both Jerry and Art about to go into production and Liz aiming for the best-sellers list.
The "Spotted Dick" inclusion may unfortunately consign this literary offering to the "top shelves" but I'm keen to read about the " dozen things to do with chocolate and a glossary.

Mouth-watering stuff!!

My supposition is that events (news) happen and our responses or reactions and our feelings are what we used to determine if the event is good or bad news. How does this happening effect me? Will it cost me anything? Will it benefit me?

Have you noticed the inclination of humans to call it good news or bad news the moment they become aware of it? Is it not true that many times that which appears to be bad or good news at the moment is later viewed as the opposite in a historical context?

Personally, I choose to think that "it is going to be alright or either it is going to be alright.

Actually, I liked Guest's response. There are many times when you only come to realize whether something is "good" or "bad" with the perspective of time. Some of the long-term best things that have happened to me in my life sure didn't feel "good" when they were happening. Pruning hurts but it can make life better in the long run.
And of course, sometimes good news for one person is bad news for another.

There are times, however where good news is just plain good news for everyone involved.

My wife and I went to a recognition dinner for the man who directs the Male Chorus I sing in. He's done it with grace, warmth and love for 30 years. No one who has ever met him knows him as anything but a living, encouraging, modest man. He's one of a handful of people I've met in my life I could say that about. The dinner was good news for everyone. One of the most honestly joyful nights of my life.

I am confused. Am I the one being refered to as a troll? Is there anything in my post that is an attack of anyone? Is there anything there that appears inciting? Did I belittle anyone at all in my post?

Please, quote to me exactly what in my post made you indicate that I am a troll.

You don't know me, I don't know you. In another thread, you made an "in fun" comment about my name, to which I responded in kind. Then I open this thread to find that you think I am a troll.

Your response actually seems more combatant and provoking than anything I have posted on any of the threads in Mudcat.

I merely voiced an opinion, my outlook, if you will. And it is an overall positive outlook to think that "it's going to be alright or either it's going to be alright".

How may I fit in here if even an positive opinion gets me called a troll?

Frankly, I am perplexed by your response.

I could be wrong, but I think the "troll" being referred to in this case is the Mudcatter who goes by the screen name of "troll".

He disappears for long periods of time and then comes back. This has been going on for years (one time it was because he had a six month gig in Japan).

Matt R, haven't YOU been gone a long time? I know I remember wondering what happened to you. Didn't you become someone else?

Please excuse my senior moment.

BTW, "Out of respect for the one who started this thread, please ignore my previous post. It is not worth messing up a good thread."

No way that's MG! ;-)
