23 Jun 05 - 11:05 PM (#1508577) Subject: BS: Some help on wiring $ by paypal From: jimmyt I need a bit of information if anyone has it. My daughter is in Paris for the next 8 weeks attending Culinary School. Yesterday we received a phone call from her bank here in the states that someone has tried to transfer $3000 from her account and after much discussion, the bank has told her that the only safe thing for her would be to close her account and transfer the $ to a new account but she needs to be present here in the states to open the new account. The long and short of this is that although the bank successfully has protected her $ by its diligance, she is sort of stuck in France without ready access to any money since she has only one account that she has been drawing on with her ATM as needed. Can anyone suggest the simplist way of me wiring her money to get her by until she gets home? Is PAYPAL the best option? If so, can anyone give me simple instructions on how to do this? I have a paypal account but have only used it for Ebay purchases. ANy help will be appreciated Jimmyt |

Seems to me that you can open a PayPal account and do an electronic transfer of funds from your bank (assuming you have access to your bank account online) to PayPal and then you can choose to Pay someone from that account. Your daughter would also need a PayPal account. I can't recall if this was something we set up in an evening or if it took snail mail time to verify all accounts etc. What about Western Union? There must be some kind of global monies transfer system. I'll have to do some poking around. In the meantime, maybe someone else will be able to give you a more direct answer. Hope she's having fun and that you'll get to benefit from all those cooking classes!!!!! YUM! Michelle *PS. You're still my favorite monk! ;) |

Maybe that old stand-by, American Express? If you belong to AAA, ask them for assistance. Good luck. |

23 Jun 05 - 11:26 PM (#1508593) Subject: RE: BS: Some help on wiring $ by paypal From: jimmyt Thanks also Art and Lily, I think Western Union may prove to be the best resource She also has a MAstercard and can get cash advances with it but I think the fees are pretty prohibitive. Any way I am sure she will figure out something or I can do the Western Union thing. We are going over in a few weeks to see her and can get it taken care of then but for now, she is in a bit of a bind. Apparently she is the victim of an identity theft tdeal with some pretty sharp people that know some amazing loopholes to counteract the bank's security efforts as they had made two or three transaction attempts to roadblock the normal security measures, It is really amazing that there was someone who was diligent enough to make so many attempts to help stop this. A lady from Suntrust bank finally got in touch with us regarding her problem after tracking down our phone # through Carrie's workplace. ANyway thanks y'all for your interest. |

You could buy one, send it to her overnight, and via phone call give her whatever pin number she needs. SRS |
