Some of you left me contacts, all of which are lost due to a re-arrangement of my studio including a dumping of what were considered 'rubbish' but were vital bits of paper with lots of telephone numbers etc. I would love to get in touch with Mudcatters who are nearby for some music and also to let them know, and invite them, to my exhibition which is opening on 20th July at The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal. So; can anyone let me know where there is any music/sessions etc. in this area, and for those who so kindly gave me contacts, is it possible to redo this? Also, what is the weather like there? I've been checking and it's meaningless in a way. The director of the gallery said it was 18 degrees and raining and really hot and humid. For me anything below about 25 is freezing and rain certainly means cold (although I guess sometimes not). |

From: BanjoRay Well, this weekend 8-10 July there's an old time picking weekend at Killington Lake, between Kendal and Sedbergh. The farmer Joe Fearnhead is a keen banjo man, and is running a free weekend camp at Reservoir House, near the lake. There's a keen set of old time musicians in the area who'll all turn out, and anyone who likes or plays the music is welcome. Cheers Ray |

From: greg stephens If you want a good soundtrack for your visit, old fiddle tunes kendal Ghyll and the Kendal Waltz can be found on "A Trip to the Lakes" by the Boat Band. There is a local musician Carolyn Franciswho runs the group the Lakeland Fiddlers, and they practise in Kendal. She also plays with Striding Edge, and would be a good contact for music around there. The theme is Fish and Rain and the (official) preview is Saturday 30July On the preceeding evening at 7.30 Pam will speak about "the Stolen Generation" of Aboriginal Australians (admission free) As well as the magical paintings Pam has a small book of her photograhs "A Journey into Bundaling Country" My only criticism - why were her workshops limited to Children? The Exhibition continues until 4th August...try if you can to get along and meet this charming and talented woman |

Had the delightful experience of meeting the beautiful Emma B and spouse, the mighty scot John 'Giok' and would have loved to have spent so very much more time with but have been so very busy ........... adult workshops were last weekend and were intense. the childrens thing is next week and am not running it myself but will come in to show them some traditional dancing etc. Cumbrian slate is beautiful and some newfound friends organised a home session last night. So much music, so much art, so much of everything. Today it's raining but it is english rain - cold, fresh, and really quite beautiful. There is a music bus that goes around the place with a whole heap of instruments on it and some musicians who just set up and anyone can join in. They are focussed on children, teenagers, and adults. What a great idea. Now its home again in a week. Missing home and loving it here - ahh isn't that the way it goes? |
