tuesday night ,june 28,2005

dear mudcat friends...

several of you have heard a rumor that i am about to have surgery on my heart soon...

i had not planned to put out an announcement such as this ,but i have been answering emails, phone calls, etc., most of the day to many of online friends and i reaslly do appreciate your thoughts and concerns...

so i am sending this out to all of you to let you all know that i will be having heart surgery this wednesday morning, june 29th, 6:30 am, edt, at the Forsyth Medical Center, in Winston-salem, N.C..

it's not an "open heart surgery", but it's called a " carteter ablasion"...which is an effort to correct my heart rhythym...(dang,all this time i thought it was my guitar that was out of tune!!!)...lol

anyway, the doctors tell me it's a piece of cake(but they always say that,no matter what!)..geezzzz!

but again, i should be home the same night(wednesday) or sometime on thursday, if they deem it necessary to keep me overnight!

please be assured that even though i have some anxiety about it,

i am not worried..

if the Good Lord decides it's my time to go, so be it!..( and please dont send one of those ecards that says something about being so close to a friend that if you could make a stairway out of the tears, etc..that you'd climb up to Heaven and bring me back!)...lol i'd hate to disappoint you,( and i love you all very much!) but when i go to Heaven ...no way i'm coming back to earth!!...lol!

(remember the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead? its in Bible in the 11th chapter of John, and it even says that Jesus wept, (john 11:35) because He knew the relatives of Lazarus wanted Him to bring lazarus back to earth...

you see, Jesus came to us from Heaven and He knew how wonderful it was and that raising Lazarus and bringing him back to earth was really sad and that's why Jesus wept!!!)

bet you didn't know that...huh?...

anyway,i really do appreciate your thoughts, concerns and prayers!... please say a few prayers for Peg,too!

she is having a difficult time getting around now and i am very concerned for her health!

i'll post a message online as soon as i'm back home to let you all know how things are going!

i love you all dear friends and i cherish that friendship more than you will ever know!

may God Bless you each and everyone, is my prayer for you all!

warm regards!

your friend,

Tar...

Good thoughts go with you, Chuck.
I have had several catheterizations into my heart and leg, to clear various blockages. Made me feel 10 years younger! More energy, no chest pains, no more fear of going out of town, far from my doctors.

Hey, dude. My very own next youngest brother had 9 count 'em 9 bypasses! Now if that overweight, outashape, miserable excuse for a Republican can survive nine bypasses AND seven kids, you'll come through flyin'. And it doesn't matter WHAT they do to ya -- clutch that pillow to your chest when you cough!

It ain't you that's gonna have trouble, it's the lady you live with. My prayers go to her, poor thing!

Good Luck, Tarheel. Waiting for the surgery is the worst part. And remember to enjoy that split second of euphoria as the drugs take hold.

The cathertisation is not too bad and you will come through just fine, I am sure. If it was open-heart as I just had 7 weeks ago, I'd echo what Deckman said...hug that pillow and take the pain meds!!**bg**

I was just telling a friend of mine who is working at a new "down-home" old style radio station, www.wpilfm.com, in Heflin, AL about you and your music, so ya gotta both get better, okay?

Giving thanks for a speedy recovery and good health for you and Peg,

luvyakat

Hi, Chuck - I wish you the best of luck with your surgery. There are many times when people here may not agree with you politically, but you have many friends and admirers here.
I like your spunk, even when I don't agree with you. And that spunk will pull you through the surgery just fine.

Tarheel - I had one of those in January this year.... you will not believe the difference it makes, even to overweight lazy lardarses like me!

It's not nice but I tell you this... the worst pain is when the hair is growing back! Sometimes the bruising is extensive but looks worse than it is.

Take care and watch out for slippery steps for the first week or so. Thinking of you....

This is the best time of year to heal quickly. Also avoiding surgury on full and new moons is a good idea for reasons that are quite valid.
Have fun and get well soon.

Hey, Chuck:

Just saw this and realize that you should be out of surgery by now. Which means you've started the healing process. My wife and I will keep you in prayer for a complete recovery. Your timing playing guitar should be perfect, now..

A bit late here but not surprisingly, I've also had one of these. It's called "Mapping and Ablation" and is done to correct arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation. They keep you in and out of consciousness all through it so they can talk to you about certain feelings. The idea here is that the heart is sending out too many triggering impulses and to locate them, then remove by laser the ones not needed. To do this they put your heart into various patterned rhythms.....the kick is that some of them can be life threatening! So for most of it you're out because to stop the life threatening arrhythmia they zap you with the paddles. During mine they accidentally zapped me and I was awake! This is something like being hit in the chest with a 699 volt baseball bat!

In any case, they do work about 70% of the time and my best goes out to you Chuck.....You are probably laying in a room and waiting to go home by this point. Hope you missed the 600 volt ballbat!!
