BS: Penguins stay gay in Germany

Es ist wahr!

A German zoo has scrapped plans to break up homosexual penguin couples following protests from gay rights groups.

The Bremerhaven Zoo had earlier flown in four female Humboldt penguins in an attempt to encourage three couples discovered to be all male to reproduce.

The zoo originally defended the experiment, claiming that the birds were an endangered species, but following protests from gay rights groups, director Heike Kueck has said that the zoo is abandoning the plan.

She said: "Everyone can live here as they please."

Glückwünsche und die besten Wünsche!

It would be interesting to see if the male couples would hatch 'adopted' eggs.

Thanks for the update, Lucky.

Why shouldn't the penguins be left to decide this kind of thing for themselves. Just because a couple of penguin blokes are best mates, whose business is it to assume they don't fancy penguins who aren't blokes? What's the penguin for "menage a trois"?

"Everyone can live here as they please." Doesn't sound much like that to me.

"Different species make different noises. African, Humboldt, Magellanic and Galapagos penguins all make braying sounds (like a donkey) and each of these species has at some time been known as "Jackass" penguins as a result. Their chicks, in contrast, make a high pitched whistling noise to demand feeding. The Yellow-eyed penguin makes a trilling sound (not unlike the old "trim-phone"). The Chinstrap has a shrill, screaming voice, so loud that it is sometimes called the stone-cracker penguin. The King penguin makes a trumpeting sound. "

Your guess is as good as mine. :)

Given that last post, maybe this should be up in the music section.

We could start talking about The Penguin Cafde Orchestra...

The fact that cabin boys could look mighty appealing on board ship does not mean sailors shunned the company of females once they were on shore.

Being allowed to have one's choice is meaningless if there is only one choice available.

What a world.

Good job (for penguins) that there were cabin boys on board ship.

Perhaps it is a good job - for cabin boys - that ships crew's used to eat penguins?

this is a penguin thread not a music thread

is penguin a welsh word?

as in, oh he lives over in penn-guin....

i suppose when you live somewhere really cold, you don't often get the urge - so when you do - you're not too fussy....man, woman , penguin, whichever feather covered orifice presents itself first.

The word penguin actually comes from the Medieval Moari 'pene', meaning 'penis', and 'guinne', meaning 'gun'.

So when Heike Kueck says "Everyone can live here as they please," she means the penguins donald-duck whoever and whatever they like and everybody else cops it sweet.

Oh, yeah! Can anyone say "Democrats and Republicans"?

Ha! The World outside the USA watches and laughs.

Penguins? Gotta love 'em. They are tremendously virile and sexy birds. They rock!

"Depending upon which etymology you choose to believe, the word "penguin" derives either from the Latin word pinguis, meaning fat, or the Welsh words pen gwyn, meaning "white head." Both names probably first described a flightless bird that is not a penguin at allthe now-extinct great auk. "

That's from this site, which has a lot of interesting stuff about penguins. And here is a picture of the real and original penguin, the Great Auk (RIP).

"Circumpoloar"? There are no penguins in the Arctic.

"White head"? Neither the Great Auk nor the penguins seem to have white heads.

The Great Auk lived on islands north of Newfoundland. In my quest for Newfoundlandia, I read that "penguin" did indeed first refer to the Great Auk and is a contraction of the phrase "pin wing".

I still think they are overdressed except for perhaps a wedding. Perhaps they should move here to Canada now that birds of a feather can f__ck together.

Ebbie commented:

"Circumpolar" means "around or surrounding the pole". In case you hadn't heard, the Earth has two poles, the north and south. "Circumpolar" here means "around the (south) pole".

Y'know, at first I thought Glucklich was just pulling our antlers, but apparently he/she isn't.    :-O

As if that's not enough, then I read about how New Zealanders won't get behind gay sheep.

"To my mind, there is only one reason for this," continued Tamariki. "Sheep are not being as strongly disciplined as in the past. Through lax standards, too many sheep are being given the run of the land, and have fallen into moral degeneracy."

"New Zealand was once famous for its sheep population. But how can Kiwis be proud of nancy-boy rams which would rather commit perverse abnormalities with other rams, than tup a lovely fluffy ewe? For these reasons, we call for Parliament to legislate tougher standards for sheep management, so that this moral degeneracy may be eliminated..."

ttyl ... I'm feeling a bit ... um ... disoriented right now...

I am a German penguin
and I've come out the closet
I heard you call me a penguin puff
that wasn't nice now, was it?
I'm looking for another penguin
who likes to shake a feather
he must be like fish, and jump in ponds
and dig high heels and leather.

I 'm not really fussy
I'll take anything
Rockhopper or Jackass
Or anything in between
Not looking for an Emperor
Not even for a King
Don't have to be royalty
I'll take any Queen.

I certainly hope these poor, discriminated-against peguins all find the partner and the true happiness they are looking for. Or at least get to write 150 or so sonnets about it, anyway...

Well, I guess they're bipedal (the other two limbs being wings), so why not bipolar, too?

Y'know, if we make a Song Challenge out of this it can go back up to the Music section!
