BS: Having it both ways........

I've been doing some thinkin. Since most of you think that GW really lost the first election and you think that there are questions on whether or not he ever really won the second election, I propose this.

Since there is no limit on how many times a person can run for President and lose we'll go ahead and concede that you're right if you would be willing to allow GWB to run for a third term and then after another successful term, finish out with his fourth.

I really don't think you will like this idea seeing as how you like to have things both ways..............

What do ya think?

I'll move to Canada if Shrub gets elected again - count on it.

I might be willing to go for that if I could make sure that the voting process was completely transparent, fair, and verifiable, and that the results were verified by an equal number of people from all parties represented in the elections. And also if we got rid of the electoral college.

CarolC,

I agree with the first part of your post. BUT the electoral collage is what is in the Constitution: THAT is the defining law of the land.

Currently it is the law of the land. I'd still like to see it abolished. In a legal manner of course.

Well, Hubby,
Whatever happened in the last two elections, it's very clear that right around half of the people didn't vote for him, despite the fact that the Democrats fielded two very lackluster candidates. It seems clear that Bush certainly does not have a "mandate." I think it's time that Bush start serving the whole nation, not just the people who voted for him. The U.S. is supposed to have a government that is for ALL the people, and I think Bush's partisan pro-business tactics are disgusting. He needs to seek a balance, not just serve the cronies who put him in office.

Even without your charming suggestion, we could well be in for yet another 8 years of Bush & co. After all, there's bro Jeb waiting in the wings, clearly being groomed to take his turn when Dubya's done... now that's seriously scary, no?

Sorry, it is simply not in my power to agree to a deal like that. Even if I agreed to it, it wouldn't happen. But imaginary deals are fun to think about sometimes. Here's one I thought of the other day:

I'll agree to have the Ten Commandments displayed in a prominent position in every courthouse in America, if the Bill of Rights is similarly displayed in every church.

How's that for a deal?

Anybody else got any deals to propose?

Nixon was enough to make me run and hide.

Those of you who have the courage to stay in the U.S. - Good for you. You are way braver than I am.

I thought the shit was going to hit the fan in 1972. What is happening in the U.S. today is even worse than it was then. How much more can people take?

Susu's hubby - Do you think its good for the country to be so divided? Do you remember what it was like before JFK was assassinated? We were so innocent and we loved our country so much.

...then Nixon and now Bush.

I would like to see the states united again. Bush certainly cannot do that. The longer he is in power, the more risk of civil unrest. Is that what you want?

I could be wrong, but I suspect that Susu's Hubby was not born prior to Kennedy's assasination. My guess is that he either wasn't born yet or was too young to be aware of Vietnam while it was happening as well. I also suspect that in his world, the Reagan years were the golden years (that is, until Bush the second was "elected").

How about it, Hubster... care to tell us when you were born?

HelLO! A President can only serve two CONSECUTIVE terms.

A President can only serve for a maximum of 10 years. Doesn't say anything about being elected, it says serve.

Got time on your hands, Susu's Hubby? Decided to set up a straw argument and see who'd bite? You don't REALLY care one way or the other, because you know your "premise" isn't viable. You just want to see people argue.

Happy reading [not].
